Fluke's Aftercare

Fluke's Aftercare Fluke's Aftercare specializes in personalized, dignified pet cremation services in Maine and New England. It was the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Fluke's Aftercare was built on personal experience when we
had to send our dog Fluke, pictured on the left, to what's
commonly known in the pet lover's world as Rainbow Bridge
on May 23, 2003. After too few years of experiencing his love, comfort, joy,
devotion and protection, it left us empty leaving him behind. We felt we owed him more than turning our backs on him
while he lay on a veterin

arian's cold floor. Knowing that our
"boy" was to spend 5 days in a chest freezer before being
picked up was equally as unbearable as the thought of
having just lost him. We would then have to wait another
week or more to receive his ashes back. Hard as we tried at the time, we were not able to find the
personalized pet cremation services that we are able to
provide to you. Our open door policy allows you to be as
involved as you would like for your peace of mind. You will
be able to walk away knowing without question that the
ashes you hold are those of your pet. To this day, we will never truly know if the remains we got
are those of Fluke because we didn't have the option of
being more a part of the process to know without a doubt. Fluke's is revolutionizing pet aftercare. We are able to
choose providers for our human family members, and our
goal is to offer you the same choice for our furry ones. You
do have the right to request which pet cremation provider
you want to care for your pet. We have found our certificate of private cremation, which we
have offered from day one, is now being imitated by others
who were in this profession for years before us. While
imitation is considered the sincerest form of flattery, what
we provide our clients is truly heartfelt and personal...and
has never been a matter of "keeping up with the Joneses". Our business is purely based on the love we had for Fluke
and for all the wonderful pets like him. Each of our clients
pets are lovingly treated as one of our own...because for but
a few hours, they are. We are located in a peaceful, country setting on 88 acres in
Litchfield, Maine. It is our dream to also add a reflection
pond with a fountain and a gazebo just yards from our
crematorium so that our bereaving families will find some
peace in such a stressful time.

Due to the high temperatures, we will be closed for cremations today. Please, Fluke's Family, stay cool and hydrated. Be sure to keep your furbabies cool and hydrated too. They are wearing a coat in this weather! Also no outdoor playing, car and hot tar. I see at least 3 heat stroke furangels every year. Don't let yours be one of them. Stay safe everyone!

This is definitely what they would say if they could talk. (Copied from "Some amazing facts")

My dear human, I see you’re crying because it’s time for me to go.
But please… don’t cry.
Let me explain something to you.

I know you’re heartbroken, but I want you to know — I’m not sad. I’m grateful.
Grateful that I got to meet you.
So many dogs never get that chance… to feel loved, to be part of a family, to be someone’s everything.
But I did. I had you.

I know you’re thinking you could’ve done more —
but please don’t blame yourself.
You gave me a home, a name, your time, your kindness, your love.
And that’s more than many ever get.
You gave me a beautiful life, even if it feels like it ended too soon.

We animals, we don’t live in the past or worry about the future — we live in the moment.
And every moment with you was filled with love.
That’s when my real life began… the day I met you.

So please, don’t cry for me.
I leave with a heart full of joy.
I remember your voice, your touch, the warmth of your home — our home.
You were my whole world.

Wipe your tears, and try to smile again.
Because there are others like me, waiting for someone just like you.
Please… give them what you gave me.
They need it, just like I did.
And you? You have so much love to give.

Thank you, my angel without wings.
I’ll be waiting — on the other side of the rainbow. 🐾

To those who have served and made the supreme sacrifice for our freedom, we offer our most profound thanks on this special day. May their selfless example inspire our current and future generations who now serve, putting it all on the line. And to the families of those lost, we thank you too.

Yes. THIS.

Some say when a beloved pet leaves this world, they don’t just cross the Rainbow Bridge—they become part of the sky itself.

Their love lingers in the golden streaks of sunrise, the hush of twilight, the way the wind nudges a fallen leaf toward you like a gentle nudge from a paw that’s no longer there. They are the unexpected warmth on your pillow where they once slept, the flicker of a shadow in the corner of your eye that feels almost like them.

They watch over you—not as ghosts, but as guardians. When you ache, they send a breeze to dry your tears. When you laugh, they rustle the trees in celebration. And on the days you miss them most, they paint the clouds in colors you can’t name, just to remind you: love doesn’t end; it changes form.

One day, when the time is right, you’ll hear the familiar jingle of a collar you’d know anywhere. You’ll turn, and there they’ll be—no longer a whisper in the wind, but a thunderous joy, barreling toward you with wings folded, ready to run the rest of the way home.

This is why I recommend the other furry family members get to say goodbye also. As sad as this is, they have to grieve too.

With current events, this came up on my timeline today. Happy to know he felt the same on this subject.

I'm sorry to announce that while we were on vacation, I left my phone in a Lyft. We will be also be closed tomorrow, March 17th as there will be no way to reach me and I have to try to reorganize and purchase a new phone.

It's hard to believe that we are getting close enough for me to appropriately post this now. We will be closed for a rejuvenating vacation from March 10th through March 17th. Families bringing in their furangels the week of March 3rd will receive them the week of our return to work. Thanks everyone!

Copied From a page called Deep Feelings. I have changed some words to be more appropriate here:

Grief is not a moment. It is not something that fades simply because time moves forward. It lingers, reshapes, and becomes a quiet companion to those who have lost someone they love. The world may expect grief to have an expiration date, to be something that eventually disappears, but the truth is, loss does not just take a pet—it takes pieces of the life that once existed, rewriting the very foundation of who you are.

When someone is gone, the world does not stop. Time continues, people carry on, seasons change. But for those left behind, everything shifts. The places once filled with their purrs, chirps or barks, now echo with absence. The moments once shared now feel incomplete. It is not just their absence that is mourned—it is the loss of what was, the loss of what could have been.

Some may ask, *"Are you still grieving?"* as if the passage of time should lessen the weight of love that once existed. But grief is not something to be outrun, nor is it something to be measured by a calendar. It is woven into the fabric of the soul, a reflection of the depth of love that was once given and received.

Yet, even in the depths of grief, there is resilience. There is a quiet strength in carrying memories, in learning how to live in a world that feels different. Grief does not mean being stuck—it means honoring what was lost while still moving forward. It is proof that love does not vanish. It transforms.

So let grief be. Let it exist without shame. It is not a weakness; it is love continuing beyond loss. Some may not understand, but those who do know that grief is not a sign of refusing to move on—it is a testament to a love that will never fade.

To our Fluke's family, near and far, we'd like to wish each and every one of you a very Happy Valentine's Day!
