Today at Animal Welfare Youth Summer Camp. The kids were able to learn a lot about reptiles and get to meet a few of them!!! Thank you so much Robert for coming and educating the kids in proper animal care, handling and sheltering!!

*** Adoption Success Story ***

When I adopted Penelope from Aransas County Animal Care Services, I was hoping to find a great dog. I never imagined I would find a partner who would completely change my life.

I live with several chronic illnesses that make everyday life challenging. There are days when simply leaving the house can feel overwhelming. Before Penelope, I often avoided going places because I didn’t feel confident or physically able to do it.

Since joining our family, Penelope has been training to become my service dog, and she has given me so much more than I ever expected. She has helped me regain confidence, encouraged me to get out of the house more often, and made me feel like I can do things I had started to believe were no longer possible.

One of my favorite memories was spending the weekend at my husband’s races. Using my wheelchair helped me conserve my energy, and Penelope stayed right by my side while runners, spectators, and all kinds of distractions passed by. She handled everything so well, and having her with me made me feel comfortable enough to enjoy the event instead of worrying about whether I could make it through the day. At the end of the weekend, we were both completely exhausted—but in the best way.

She is incredibly smart, eager to learn, and truly loves having a job. Every day she amazes me with how much she learns and how naturally she wants to help. Training her has become something we enjoy together, and every small success reminds me how far we’ve both come.

Penelope has given me more independence, more confidence, and more hope for the future. She has helped me start living life again instead of watching it pass by from home.

I will always be grateful to Aransas County Animal Care Services for the work you do and for giving Penelope the chance to find her forever home with us. Because of your dedication, one shelter dog has made a life-changing difference for me and my family.

Thank you for giving her a second chance—and in so many ways, giving me one too.

Dissection day!!! The activity went exceptionally well and the students had an absolute blast!!! They were able to dissect frog, perch, earthworm and crawfish! They said 10 out of 10 recommend.

We are on Week 3 of our Summer Youth program and we have learned learned 2 of the 5 freedoms of Animal Welfare. Freedom of hunger and thirst, Freedom of discomfort. So we did a project, each student had a different animal assigned to them and they had to come up with a enclosure that met those 2 freedoms. These are what they came up with. They are truly amazing kids. I cant wait to see how it turns out in the end.

Kids had fun dissecting owl pellets and identifying what they had digested!!! They are ready for our bigger dissection project 🙂
