1) Submit an app! (General app or for a specific animal)

2) Get connected with the foster via email. They may have follow-up questions, and you can ask all the questions you’d like!

3) Arrange a meet and greet at the event

4) Chat about all the things with the foster and with a Camp Companion Adoption Counselor

5) Is it a good match?? If so, complete the digital paperwork and take your new friend HOME!

🐾💔 For Tuffy. Because Every Life Matters.

We knew Tuffy for less than 24 hours.

He was a stray cat who had been living beneath someone's stored boat. We don't know how long he'd been there, where he'd come from, or what his life had been like before someone noticed him.

But one day, the homeowner spotted Tuffy in her yard, unable to walk. She knew he needed help, and she brought him to Malanimals Cat Coalition.

We did everything we could to stabilize him, keeping him warm, comfortable, and safe until he could be seen by a veterinarian the following day.

Unfortunately, the news was devastating.

We were told there was "no hope." Tuffy's symptoms suggested either rabies or exposure to a toxin, and there was nothing more we could do to save him.

So we made the heartbreaking decision to let him go peacefully, surrounded by compassion rather than allowing him to suffer any longer.

Tuffy was sent to the University of Iowa for testing, and thankfully, rabies was ruled out.

We knew Tuffy for less than 24 hours. But for those 24 hours, he mattered to us.

He wasn't just another stray. He wasn't an inconvenience or a lost cause. He was a living, breathing creature who deserved kindness, dignity, and relief from his suffering.

We don't always get happy endings in rescue. Sometimes, despite everything we do, we can't save them.

But we can make sure they don't suffer alone.

We can give them warmth when they've known only the cold. We can give them gentle hands when the world has been unkind. And when there's nothing left to do, we can give them a peaceful goodbye.

Tuffy didn't get the life we wanted for him. But he got the love and compassion he deserved in his final hours.

And that matters. 🖤

Cases like Tuffy's are heartbreaking, and they come with veterinary expenses even when the outcome isn't what we'd hoped. Stabilization, emergency care, diagnostics, and testing all cost money.

As Malanimals prepares for its official launch at the end of 2026, Camp Companion will be holding monthly fundraisers to help support their work. All proceeds from these fundraisers will be donated directly to a veterinary clinic of Malanimals’ choice to help cover the cost of care for cats like Tuffy. ❤️🐾

It’s NATIONAL CAT DAY!! (We may know a few cats to celebrate…)

It’s also TWO days until Halloween, and our bonded pair Philly and Draco understood the assignment! 🎃👻

At just 2 years old, Draco and Philly have so much love to give and are hoping someone will open their heart and home to them both!

🖤 Draco is the confident, social sweetheart of the duo. This big boy loves attention, soaking up affection, and especially enjoys quality lap time. If you’re looking for a loving companion who is happy to be close to his people, Draco might just be your guy!

🤍 Philly is a gentle, sweet soul who may take a little time to come out of his shell. He’s a bit more reserved at first, but underneath that shy exterior is a boy with so much love to give. Once he feels comfortable and safe, Philly enjoys affection, too. He’s just waiting for someone patient enough to let him blossom at his own pace. ❤️

These boys have so much life ahead of them, and we would love to see them begin their next chapter together. Draco may be the outgoing one, while Philly takes a little longer to warm up, but both deserve a family who will love them for exactly who they are.

Vivi is proof that a little gray doesn’t mean slowing down! This 10-year-old, 15-pound mix has a zest for life and plenty of s***k. She’s a little dog with a big personality, ready to bring some extra joy to her next chapter.

Don’t let the “senior” label fool you—Vivi still has plenty of living and loving to do. Now she just needs someone to share it with! ❤️

Vivi is good with kids dogs and cats, AND qualifies for our Seniors for Seniors program, which waives her adoption fee for adopters age 63 and older.

🦋 Every butterfly deserves a place to land! 🦋

Agatha was once a little caterpillar, found wandering near Eyota, underweight and suffering from a terrible skin condition. We brought her in, got her healthy, and watched her transform into a beautiful butterfly. And then she was adopted! 💜

Sadly, her owner became too ill to care for her, despite loving her very much, and Agatha came back to us. Sometimes loving them means letting go. ❤️

Now she’s thriving with her foster dad and Chihuahua foster sister, who absolutely adore her! But it’s time for this little butterfly to spread her wings and find a home of her own again.

🦋 Agatha is 5 years old, 23 pounds, and ready to land somewhere FOREVER this time!

Dog adoption round-up for the week! We had seven great adoptions!

Kai and River were both adopted! 🥳 (this does leave their sister Aspen as the ONLY puppy from this litter still looking for her people!)

Harper found the most amazing family with two older dog siblings to learn from.

Pigtail, now Fig, is going to be SPOILED in her future home, and we couldn’t be happier!

We never want our amazing foster families to have to pay out of their own pockets to feed the dogs they're opening their homes and hearts to. They already do SO much for us, and we love them for it! ❤️
