If you care to learn more about the Dog Days of Summer (like we did) here's what our Googler report said;
The term "dog days of summer" comes from ancient Greek and Roman times. It originates from the belief that the brightest star in the night sky, Sirius, known as the "Dog Star" because it's part of the constellation Canis Major (Greater Dog), added to the heat of the sun during the summer months.
The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that the combined heat from the sun and Sirius led to exceptionally hot and sultry days, which they called the "dog days." These days were associated with the hottest and most uncomfortable period of summer. Over time, the term "dog days of summer" became a colloquial expression to describe any excessively hot and muggy period during this time of the year.
