Two local shelters posting today. I saw another from a Texas rescue who needed to leave a box of puppies on the side of the road where they were dumped to die in the heat for lack of local fosters who would step up for our four weeks to help-they had an out of state rescue who would take the puppies after a four weeks quarantine. 😢😢😢😢 The local shelters do not euthanize for time or space. We cannot get out of the national companion animal crisis without massive euthanasia of perfectly good dogs (and cats). It is heartbreaking and terrifying. We CAN build a better tomorrow by spaying and neutering our pets today to prevent unwanted litters. If you are a Richmond City (Virginia) resident who needs help getting their pet fixed, please reach out-we will help. If you are a Richmond City (VA) backyard breeder who realizes you can no longer sell all the animals your dogs are producing, please reach out, we will help. Today will remain heartbreaking-tomorrow need not be.

The little boy and his seven siblings were saved from euthanasia in a rural Virginia shelter because four fosters and an awesome rescue stepped up. They are not the first litter from their mama. Were she spayed, the shelter would not have puppies to euthanize. You cannot kill what you do not have. If you are a Richmond City (VA) resident and need help getting your companion animal spayed or neutered, please reach out-we will help.

One of the puppies saved by ODHS this past week. Updated photo in comments. Not all the puppies they were asked to take made it to safety. That is why spay/neuter is so important. Shelters cannot EU what never exists.

For those who were horrified by the death of the 30 puppies I mentioned in the TV interview - now 100 - yes 100 lives are on the line. If you can foster 2, the rescue will commit to saving them.

It has been almost two years since the catalyst that led to the Kara and Eden Project. It has also been two awful years in dog rescue. Shelters and rescues are beyond overwhelmed and euthanasia rates are climbing at an alarming level. Big, medium, small dogs and puppies are losing their lives because they have nowhere to go. Spay/neuter is a long term solution but unless every household wants to add 10 dogs to their family, it is the ONLY solution that will address the problem. Today, the Kara and Eden Project received a very generous donation which will help Richmond (Virginia) residents who cannot afford to fix their dogs get them fixed at no cost. We are humbled by the gift and know the RACC Foundation will put it to use helping those who want to do the right thing for their furry family members but simply cannot afford to do so. Every prevented unwanted litter means less dogs suffer, fewer end up in heinous situations, and fewer find themselves homeless and spending their last hours in a noisy, crowded shelter. Help us build a better tomorrow! Please spay and neuter your pet!

If ever there was an argument for spaying…..these are some of Hope’s relatives according to Embark. Hope-and I imagine most of these dogs given where they now live, were strays, or dumped. Hope is permanently disabled and was suffering unbelievably when she was captured. She is a lucky one. We don’t need this many stray German shepherds, or pitties or toy poodles which is her third breed. We need to do better and short of massive euthanasia, spay/neuter is the only thing that will fix this problem. Be part of the solution. Build a better tomorrow.

This is what life is like for an unspayed female in heat. This poor pup was a stray but the same can happen for your dog if they get loose. Male dogs are awful around fertile females. Richmond (VA) residents have an option for free spaying. Please reach out for more information.

This photo torn up our hearts. A vunerable female Doberman in heat. The male dogs swarm her like bees, 24/7. She's exhausted now, trying her best to keep them at bay but she was failing.
We couldn't let this go on. She was too smart to be trapped so we had to call in someone to dart her to bring her to safety.
Birdie has been decompressing at our vet overnight and she is being spayed today in case she is in a early stage pregnancy.
Birdie can look forward to enjoying a harassment free life from here on out. She is heartworm positive so we'll be working on that after her recovery from her spay.
Please help us continue to do the work to help save lives like Birdie.

Eden’s puppies didn’t make it out of the RGV-dumped-they succumb to the illnesses that kill so many. In their honor, we donated funds for some supplies for this amazing clinic powered by and the amazing high school students from Donna, Texas. Here are some more photos from the miracle weekend.
