We knew Garthim needed help before we even met him.
When Garthim arrived at Boxers & Buddies this past weekend, it was immediately clear he was in pain. This sweet 2 year old, 10lb Miniature Pinscher/Chihuahua mix had a large open wound on the side of his neck. He was so uncomfortable that he wouldn't allow us to perform even a basic intake exam.
We didn't wait.
Our amazing partners at Caughlin Ranch Animal Hospital fit him into their Monday schedule right away. After examining him, they determined the safest option was to sedate him. While he was under anesthesia, they thoroughly cleaned his wound, closed it, and bandaged it. This week he begins laser therapy to help speed healing and give him the best chance at a full recovery.
The difference in just a few days has been incredible. His foster tells us he's no longer hiding in his crate. He's started wagging his tail, exploring his foster home, and finally beginning to relax. It's amazing what happens when a dog is no longer living in constant pain.
Garthim's story could have ended in a shelter. He was set to be euthanized, but we knew he deserved better. Because a foster stepped up and opened their home, we were able to say yes. We were able to get him the urgent medical care he needed. Now we're asking our community to help us continue that care.
His veterinary treatment, laser therapy, medications, and follow-up appointments are expensive, but they're giving Garthim the chance to heal and begin the life he deserves.
