New friends! Winston came over for a play date because he’s having a sleepover with Jaqweenie and Orson next week and we wanted to make sure he’s comfortable. Orson did his best to welcome him, but Winston wasn’t so sure about the situation.

Winston’s face in the second picture! He did consent to some butt scratches from steak dad so he started to warm up at the end. Winston is not making fun of Orson’s wiggle wand in the first picture. He has a fancy foot.

When you brush your dog’s teeth every night and they look like this! Time for Jaqweenie’s yearly dental.

This actually gives you a good look at how crooked Jaqweenie’s jaw is. We had to remove his lower incisor when we adopted him because it was poking a hole in the roof of his mouth. The MRI showed that it was going to pierce his nasal cavity. The disreputable rescue we got him from told us it was totally fine and wasn’t hurting him. 😐 Luckily I didn’t believe them. Removing that tooth is why his tongue hangs out. There is no structural integrity to hold it in place!

You see that bump on the roof of his mouth? That is the incisive papilla which serves as the primary entrance to the incisive duct, which bridges the oral cavity and the vomeronasal organ (Jacobson’s organ) to facilitate the detection of pheromones and semiochemicals. You can see Jacobson’s Organ Connection in action in the video. Jaqweenie licked some p*e and was really fully experiencing it.

Fun fact- after we had Jaqweenie for a couple of years I found out that Kirby thought that bump was actually a tooth that hadn’t erupted yet. 😆

Just a garbage dog posing with a dumpster as the lord intended. Happy to all the Orson Freaks!

Orson was not feeling his special Orson only run today so he took lots of breaks. It’s a little humid so I get it. With these flat faced dogs you have to be so careful. I don’t always get the exercise I want to ensure Orson doesn’t overheat.

I couldn’t be prouder of Coo(L) Joe. He went from a frankly terrifying little devil to a sweet old man who is prone to occasional acts of violence. He’s biting less and less and giving more kisses. While I expect he’ll continue to rain down terror on everyone in the veterinary field, I think he’s going to be a great pet.

He’s even started sitting in my lap and has ceased his attacks on resident dogs Jaqweenie and Orson. Turns out he was doing preemptive strikes out of fear!

Beau has been helping my husband Kirby build the puppy palace today. And by help I mean stealing tools and that sort of thing. All the dogs are furious that Beau is spending the weekend with us, but they are enjoying his enormous bed.
