We not only take in parrots for whatever reason and find appropriate, loving homes for them. We provide community education at local adoption events. We will also make presentations to organizations and clubs upon request. Parrot Outreach Society will help families in temporary crisis or need of food to enable them to keep their parrot. Over the past few weeks, you’ve made us laugh, smile, and sometimes even tear up. You’ve shared stories of love, trust, resilience, companionship, and the incredible bonds you share with your birds. Thank you for making this campaign so special.

Over the next few days, we’ll be gathering some of our favorite responses and creating a series of posts that celebrate the stories you’ve shared throughout this campaign. We can’t wait to highlight the many different ways parrots enrich our lives.

Too often, parrots are seen as something beautiful to admire in a cage. But those of us who share our lives with them know they’re so much more. If you live with a parrot, you already know—sometimes it feels a lot like living with a feathered toddler! 😂 They throw things, demand attention, refuse perfectly good food, get into everything they shouldn’t, and somehow manage to be completely adorable while doing it.

🦜 More Than Feathers — Day 22 ❤️

You can read every book, research every behavior, and prepare as much as possible—but living with a parrot will still surprise you!

Maybe it’s how incredibly intelligent they are, how deeply they bond, how clearly they communicate without saying a word… or how one small bird can somehow take over an entire house.

They make us laugh, challenge us, teach us patience, and often become a much bigger part of our lives than we ever imagined.

We’ve reached the last week of questions in our More Than Feathers companion parrot series, and we’ve loved reading your stories, seeing your photos, and learning about the incredible relationships you share with your birds.

As we head into this final week, we’re talking about one of the biggest responsibilities that comes with loving a parrot: lifelong commitment.

Parrots aren’t companions for just a season. Many can live 30, 50, even 80+ years. Through moves, new jobs, growing families, changing routines, and all of life’s unexpected turns, they depend on us to keep showing up.

🦜 DAY 20 — MORE THAN FEATHERS 🪶💕

To a parrot, a toy isn’t just a toy. It’s something to chew, shred, climb, solve, explore—and sometimes completely destroy in record time! 😂

Enrichment is such an important part of keeping our birds mentally and physically engaged. The right toys encourage natural behaviors like foraging, chewing, problem-solving and exploration. And just like us, every bird seems to have their own favorites!

Some love bells. Some love wood. Some would happily turn an entire cardboard box into confetti. And then there’s always that expensive toy they ignore while playing with the box it came in. 🤣

Well... the front desk just submitted his resignation.

After what feels like forever, Nibbles has officially gone home.

If you've ever visited Parrot Outreach Society, you probably met our feathered receptionist before you met any of us. Nibbles took his job very seriously. He'd greet visitors, supervise the lobby, tell people to "put your feet up," randomly count "One... Two... THREE!" and then celebrate like he'd just solved world peace.

He sings to everything.

He dances to everything.

He has a vocabulary that embarrasses some five-year-olds.

And despite being very much a boy, he proudly reminds everyone that he's a "good girl." We've stopped arguing with him.

Brilliant? Absolutely.

Easy? Not even a little.

Nibbles has been one of the smartest—and most challenging—birds we've ever had. He wasn't just looking for a home. He was interviewing applicants... and rejecting most of them. He made his new mom, one of our longtime volunteers, work for every ounce of his trust. Apparently she finally passed probation. 😆

We're incredibly happy for him. He found someone patient enough, stubborn enough, and just crazy enough to appreciate every hilarious quirk that makes Nibbles... well, Nibbles.

We'll miss hearing him greet everyone at the door, hearing random songs echo through the rescue, and being told to put our feet up by a bird who has never paid a bill in his life.

Congratulations, buddy. You've earned your forever home.

Now go keep your new mom entertained... and don't forget to remind her she's a good girl. ❤️💙💛

DAY 18 — MORE THAN FEATHERS 💕

People see the beautiful feathers, hear the funny words, and watch the adorable videos—but living with a parrot is so much more than that.

Parrots are intelligent, emotional, complicated little beings with BIG personalities. They form deep bonds, have strong opinions, need tremendous amounts of attention and enrichment, and can bring both incredible joy and some very real challenges.

Those of us who share our lives with them know there are things you simply don’t understand until you’ve loved a parrot. ❤️

So today we want to hear from YOU:

Day 17 — Every Bird Has a Story

Some parrots come into our lives through rescue. Others come from breeders, previous families, friends, or simply through a twist of fate that brought the right bird to the right person.

Today, we want to hear your story.

If you rescued your bird, tell us about their journey. How did you find each other? What challenges did you overcome, and how has your bird changed since coming home?

Sometimes love doesn’t need words. It’s in the way they lean into you, call for you when you leave the room, quietly sit by your side, or give you that special look reserved just for their person.

Our parrots have their own unique ways of saying “I love you,” and when you recognize it, there’s no mistaking that incredible bond.
