PAWS FOR LIFE/ANIMAL WELFARE AND PROTECTION SOCIETY

PAWS FOR LIFE/ANIMAL WELFARE AND PROTECTION SOCIETY The objective was to place each of these animals into a loving home. In its beginning there was no shelter facility. Thankfully, in March of 1980 Albert O.

Mission: To help lost or unwanted animals; to return lost ones to their owners whenever possible or after having them spayed or neutered, place them in good homes and to educate the public about intelligent & humane treatment of animals. PAWS For Life – Animal Welfare & Protection Society began in 1978 with the collective actions of eight individuals who saw the need, in Pueblo, to provide help an

d aid to abandoned, abused and unwanted companion animals. Care for animals was provided strictly through a foster home system but it quickly became obvious that the foster home system was limited. Large numbers of adoptable animals were still left to die in the streets or were subject to disposal at taxpayers’ expense. Pritz donated land at 3420 West 8th Street (off Pueblo Boulevard and 11th Street) and a shelter facility was built. This is where the current shelter still remains. In 1981 the PAWS For Life – Animal Welfare and Protection Society was incorporated in the state of Colorado as a non-profit organization and is recognized as a 501(c)(3) corporation by the Internal Revenue Service. PAWS For Life soon established a policy based on population control and adoption as alternatives to euthanasia and the organization began a campaign to focus public awareness on the increasing needs of helpless and homeless animals. In response to this, contributions from the public enabled us to construct a small, 10 run kennel. The shelter later expanded to 16 indoor access runs and four outside runs. In 2001 the shelter underwent a renovation project that made the shelter safer and healthier for dogs and staff and brought it into compliance with PACFA regulations. Our shelter presently has 26 runs and houses between 50 and 60 dogs at any one time. With donations from individuals and businesses, fundraising activities and an occasional grant as our only means of support we have been able to care for and adopt out several thousand animals into good homes.

During our last staff meeting, we voted on which lucky pets would be highlighted for the month—and the winners are sweet pup Baxter and handsome kitty Toby! We’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on these two amazing boys and hope the extra attention helps them find their perfect families and forever homes.Toby is a sweet 6-year-old who was sadly returned to us through no fault of his own. We’re hoping he finds a new home soon so he doesn’t have to settle back into shelter life for long.Although it may look like Toby’s frowning, don’t be fooled—he’s actually one of the happiest kitties around! This gentle guy is calm, affectionate, and loves nothing more than cuddling up and soaking in a good sunbeam. If you’ve got cozy spots where he can curl up and relax, Toby would be thrilled to share them with you. He’s also playful and enjoys batting at feather toys and other fun favorites.Toby is FIV-positive, but don’t let that worry you! FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) doesn’t mean he can’t live a long, healthy, and happy life. It’s not contagious to people or other animals and is only spread to other cats through deep bite wounds. With a calm, indoor lifestyle, Toby can thrive just like any other cat.He would do best in a peaceful home with kids aged 10 and up who can appreciate his gentle nature and playful side. Toby can’t wait to meet you—come by for a cuddle and see why he’s the perfect companion.📞 Contact us at (719) 543-6464📧 Email: [email protected]🌐 Visit: www.pawspueblo.org

Meet Baxter – Your Next Best friend!Baxter is a loving and energetic 1-year-old Rottweiler/Pit mix with a heart full of love. He was rescued just in time by our friends at Highway 50 Freedom Ride, arriving before his final day at the shelter he was transferred from. We’re so grateful to have him with us because he’s one of the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet!Baxter has done well with other dogs in the past, according to Highway 50, and likes walking with his buddy Major at PAWS. He’s a playful and energetic pup but also knows how to relax and chill when it’s time to wind down. He does get a little nervous at first around men, but quickly puts down his guard. Baxter walks like a.Dream in a leash and loves going on packwalk with pals Carol and Amber.Baxter will need an approved secure fence to keep him safe during playtime in his new home. If you’re looking for a loyal and loving companion, Baxter might be the perfect fit for you.For more information on Baxter, please call PAWS at 719-543-6464, email us at [email protected], or visit our website at www.pawspueblo.org.

We want to extend our deepest thanks to Nancy & Ken Cipriani, Wendy and Jim Carpenter, and Dora Mitchell and Rhonda Gamble for stepping up when we needed it most.

With the clinic running at full speed, we couldn’t let the laundry pile up—and thanks to this incredible team, we didn’t have to. Nancy even went the extra mile to make sure we had a clean slate by taking everything that was left.

We’re so grateful for your time, energy, and kindness. Your support means the world to us—and to the animals who depend on us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

We’d like to send a big PAWS heartfelt thank you to volunteers Dora and Rhonda!

They called us from Costco with the words every shelter loves to hear: “We’re shopping for PAWS!” And they delivered—literally! Not only did they bring supplies, but they also gifted us a Walgreens gift card and took bags of laundry to help during this busy clinic week.

We are so grateful they’ve joined our team. Their generosity, kindness, and willingness to jump in wherever needed mean the world to us. Dora and Rhonda, we’re so lucky to have you!

We want to give a big shout-out to our amazing volunteers, Ginger and Nory! They surprised our staff with beautiful roses as a thank-you for all the hard work they do.

Our team works tirelessly—often in brutal heat and less-than-ideal weather—so thoughtful gestures like this mean the world.

Thank you, Ginger and Nory, for always thinking of others. And thank you to everyone who shows love and appreciation for our hardworking staff!

Happy Gotcha Day to sweet little Hash Brown! 🧡 This pint-sized pup has captured so many hearts, and we couldn’t be more thrilled that he’s landed exactly where he was meant to be. With his new sister Rosie (paws alumn) by his side and parents who have shown such incredible patience and understanding, Hash Brown is truly set up to thrive.

We’re beyond grateful to this amazing family for seeing the special soul in this little guy. He deserves every belly rub, yard to play in, and moment of joy in the world—and now, he finally has it. 💛
