Meet Bullet!
Bullet is a quiet, calm and laidback dude. Bullet does well with other dogs as well as cats.
Bullet is a bit overweight so he is looking for a family who will help him lose a few pounds.
Please text/call 203-927-8126 for more information or to fill out our adoption questionnaire.
Meet Ladybug!
Ladybug was rescued by our SoCO Paw Responder team after she was out running for over two months in a rural town with an injured leg.
Since coming to us ladybug has had TPLO surgery to fix her leg. Since her injury was old there was a bit of arthritis built up so it’s likely she will always have a limp. Ladybug doesn’t let her injury get her down, she loves to run and play. She is an absolute joy and is sooo sweet.
Ladybug or LOVEbug loooooves to cuddle and get lots and lots of pets. She is looking for a home with a family who is ready to help her be the best she can be! She would greatly benefit from training classes. A family who is home often would be best. No young children due to her size and a home where she is the queen bee with no other pets is necessary.
A yard with a secure privacy fence will be required.
Please text/call 203-927-8126 for more information or to fill out our adoption questionnaire.

Please text Lisa at 719-250-0262 if you're in need of mousers!
Just wanted to brighten up your news feed with some supreme cuteness!
This baby is one of three in a litter that are alive because of SoCO's Bottlefeeding Program!
Originally found in a window well in Beulah, these babies were taken care of and tube fed for two weeks by superstar SoCO employee Lilli. After they were stabilized, they were taken to Cyrissa, one of our most-experienced bottlefeeders.
We can only take in these fragile felines if we have fosters set up to take care of them. If you're interested in helping, please message Lisa at 719-250-0262.
All supplies, training, and support are provided by SoCO!
Can't foster but want to help? We need unscented baby wipes for our bottle babies! Donations can be dropped off all day on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.

We have a special someone to introduce you to- someone we bet you won't soon forget!
Meet Ladybug! This goofy goober was trapped by our own SoCO Paw Responder team after we learned about her living alone and injured on an isolated and uninhabited ranch in Boone, CO. Sadly, it was confirmed that she had been alone for nearly 2 months before we were asked to help. We are proud to announce that after only 12 hours on the case, we safely captured her. Her full rescue story can be read here and it's a good one, so don't skip it: https://www.facebook.com/socopawresponders/photos/a.501062326922914/1615828815446254
Upon arrival at SoCO, our team quickly learned that this emaciated girl was very sweet and loving. After carefully removing her from our extra-large TruCatch Trap, Ladybug quietly and gently crawled toward any warm body: our girl was obviously relieved to know she was no longer alone and just wanted to have skin-to-skin contact with us. She was full of ticks, very skinny, and she had a swollen back leg that she was favoring: our girl had been through a lot.
Immediate treatments were administered, and upon examination by Dr. Ballotti, this year-old mastiff mix was found to have a torn ligament in her knee. After many phone consultations and a recommendation from Dr. Ballotti, we will be having her knee repair done on Monday, April 18th.
Ladybug has filled out very nicely since arriving at SoCO. Her precious little nub tail is always wiggling with happiness, and her head is always ready to plop in any available lap. Ladybug can sit, lay down, and roll over which she does with pride! We are honored to be helping this girl and equally honored to know her.
We are asking you, our dedicated supporters, to help us once again. Her surgery will be expensive and we are seeking donations to help cover the cost. If you aren't in a position to help, please share her post. Don't forget to click that link to read her full rescue story, and be sure to take a peek at the pictures provided of our sweet, tough Ladybug.

Help us in wishing Dr. Ballotti a happy birthday!
Every day after surgery is finished and all surgical patients have been checked, Dr. Ballotti puts on her comfy slippers and sits down in various areas of the clinic to love on SoCO's rescue cats! This serves multiple purposes: It allows Doc to continually assess their behaviors and conditions in a relaxed environment, it makes Doc super happy, and it makes the rescues super happy!
Sometimes it can be hard to find Doc when she's in "snuggle mode": she's so tiny that she fits comfortably in the kennels and has been known to climb right in with a cat! Notice her post-surgical slippers sticking out of the kennel in the 2nd picture!💗
Happy Birthday Doc! Thank you for being you!
SoCO was immediately on scene to assist PAWS for Life in the evacuation of their rescues! All pets have been safely evacuated thanks to the caring people of Pueblo! This city is amazing!
SoCO employees were able to help Ben (black) and Goose(tan and white). We transported and escorted them to their holding crates where we continue our watch over them, keeping them calm and giving lots of pets!
Thank you to Cody and Teresa for taking care of the SoCO rescues while other SoCO team members helped with the evacuation process.
Many tails are wagging and many cats are purring a combined "thank you" to Alive Volleyball!
In lieu of a participation fee at last week's tournament, the great people at Alive Volleyball requested donations be made to the rescues at SoCO!
Between the cash and goodies, there was well over a thousand dollar's worth of donations!
These toys and treats assist us in making the rescues happy and enriched during their stay with us.
Thank you to Alive Volleyball and all of the great people that donated! Your kindness has warmed our hearts and will help us make lives better.
April is a special month for us! 25 years ago, SoCO began its service as a non-profit, low-cost spay and neuter clinic for the people of Pueblo and southern Colorado.
It all began when a small group of animal advocates got together, acknowledging the issues our city was facing : The municipal shelter and Animal Welfare and Protection Society (now known as PAWS for Life) were bursting at the seams. Should they build a newer, bigger shelter? They knew it would also become overwhelmed.
This ambitious group knew that they had to start at the source: there needed to be an affordable option for fixing the beloved pets of Pueblo. And so, the Southern Colorado Spay and Neuter Association was created. It was ahead of its time for a smaller city, but was immediately successful!
Throughout the years, other programs were conceptualized and put into place. Throughout the month we will be sharing more about these programs.
We are proud to continue the work started 25 years ago, and we look forward to many more years ahead!
Thank you Pueblo, for always supporting our efforts. We are incredibly proud of our city and our little clinic!

On Feb 21st, the SoCO staff had a great surprise during a routine dog spay. Dr. Ballotti made the calm announcement of what she was encountering- a pregnancy of one puppy, likely at term. SoCO gals quickly went into action following trained protocol for a viable baby. The team worked quietly, but completely in-step: each team member knew their role in this situation.
Dogs born during a spay have been affected by the anesthesia given to their mother. CO2, found in the air we breathe, actually reverses the effect of one of the drugs used. We had to get this pup, fresh from the womb, breathing. Please understand that the pup, under anesthesia, is also now cold and wet from birth. You must clamp the umbilical cord, dry the baby, suction fluid from their lungs, assist with breathing, and keep the baby warm all at the same time.
After 45 minutes of work, the pup was breathing on his own and making cute little newborn puppy noises!
Owners of the mom and pup were called, letting them know a viable puppy was found and saved during the spay. It was explained that the mom could still produce milk with hormonal injections, but there may be need for human intervention in the way of bottlefeeding. We offered our assistance and the family agreed that the pup would benefit from our help.
Fast forward 3 weeks later and this angel is thriving! He is safe in foster care with a very experienced family where he has been bottle-fed every 2 hours. He is meeting all of the appropriate milestones for a pup his age, and is bringing a lot of joy to us all!!
