This pup was brought in yesterday by a kind gentleman who found it on his property with its deceased sibling.. this baby is actively being treated for mange.

If you think this could be your pup please reach out with the following information:
•proof of ownership
•know the gender
•UTD rabies.

This pup will be on a 5 day stray hold starting today, Thursday August 13th ending Tuesday August 18th then will be made available for 501(c)3 rescue or adoption.

🚨STRAY ALERT🚨

these three dogs were brought in today, after being found abandoned in Auxier. They are very unhappy about being caught and brought to the shelter. If you think these could be your dogs please contact us with the following information in order to claim.

•proof of ownership
•know the genders.
•UTD rabies

These dogs will be on a 5day stray hold starting today, ending Tuesday August 18th. then will be on an extend behavioral hold while we work with them, to show them not everyone in this world is bad.

We also did not have a cage for these pups, so they’re currently on our cages in cat porch. If you come to the shelter DO NOT stick your fingers in with them as they will bite you. They’re extremely scared.

This sweet old man was brought to us the other day after his owners moved away and left him behind. A neighbor had been caring for him, but they were worried he may go after their chickens, so he was brought to us. Even though we didn’t have an open kennel for him, we knew he needed help—he had several wounds that needed medical attention.

He has since been checked over and started on medication. This sweet boy is covered in scars and has several tumors/cysts, but none of that has stopped him from being an absolute sweetheart. ❤️

In the short time he’s been with us, he has been fantastic. He keeps his kennel clean and only goes potty when he’s taken outside. He has also met multiple dogs and a few children over the last couple of days and has done wonderfully with both. 🥹 He truly seems like such a gentle, easygoing old man who just wants to be loved.

He’ll remain on medical hold for a little while longer while we get him feeling his best, but once he’s cleared, he’ll be looking for one last home—a forever family who will make sure he never has to wonder where he belongs again. ❤️🐾

💔 Viktor is back… and once again looking for his forever home.

After spending months at the shelter, Viktor finally got the moment we had all been waiting for. On July 26th, he walked out our doors with an adopter.

Unfortunately, on August 6th, just 11 days later, Viktor was returned due to his food aggression/resource guarding around other dogs.

We want to make something very clear — we are not upset with his adopters at all. We completely understand that sometimes a dog simply isn’t the right fit for a home, and we are thankful Viktor was brought safely back to us so we can continue searching for the home that IS right for him. ❤️

Viktor’s food aggression is something we have known about and managed during his time here. It is also something that was disclosed prior to his adoption. His resource guarding is strictly toward other animals. Viktor has shown NO aggression toward people over his food, treats, or toys.

Because of this, we believe Viktor’s best chance would be as the only pet in the home, where he doesn’t have to worry about another animal around his food or belongings.

And this boy has SO much going for him. 🥺

Viktor spent months waiting for someone to choose him. He finally got to leave his kennel and experience having a home, only to find himself back here again 11 days later.

You don’t even have to jump straight into adoption. Come foster-to-adopt Viktor. Take him home, give him time to decompress, learn who he is outside of a shelter kennel, and see if he’s the missing piece of your family.

🐾 $5 FRIDAY — WE NEED HELP WITH MEDICAL CARE. ❤️‍🩹

We wish we could say things have slowed down.

They haven’t.

With the incredible number of animals coming through our doors lately, our medical supplies are disappearing faster than we can replace them. We have already gone through FIVE trays of puppy vaccines in what feels like no time at all.

Our latest order for just 3 trays of vaccines and a bottle of Rimadyl totaled $402.01.

And yesterday, several animals needed veterinary care:

🐾 Sawyer — a painful cut on his paw
🐾 Fenwick — two deep wounds around his ankles
🐾 Bramwell — worsening eye issues
🐾 Our very sick kitty who came in the day before

That vet visit added another $229.25.

That’s $631.26 between just TWO bills.

And unfortunately, we can’t put these expenses off. We can’t tell an injured dog to wait until we have more money. We can’t turn away from a sick cat. And with an overcrowded shelter, we cannot stop vaccinating.

So this $5 Friday, instead of sponsoring one particular animal, we’re asking you to help us care for ALL of them.

If 20 people donate $5, that’s $100.
If 50 donate, that’s $250.
If 100 donate, that’s $500.

Right now, we’re overwhelmed. The shelter is overflowing, supplies are disappearing, bills are piling up, and the animals just keep coming.

But they still deserve vaccines.
They still deserve treatment when they’re hurting.
And they still deserve someone fighting for them. ❤️‍🩹

EDIT TO ADD: this cat is very scared/not super friendly. Which is why the cat is scuffed- to keep it and staff safe. The cat was started on antibiotics, and will be going to the vet if you’d like to help with that bill all donations can be called directly into highlands vet clinic.
