•UTD rabies.

This dog will be on a 5 day stray hold starting today, and ending Monday 9/8/25 then will be made available for 501c3 rescue or adoption.

This dog was picked up out the road at water gap. Very friendly and healthy looking. If you think this is your dog you can contact the animal shelter. You need to be able to show proof this is your dog. This dog is not at the shelter. It is in foster care. It is on a 5 day stray hold ending September 4, 2025.

Happy National Dog Day to all of our beautiful canine friends here at the Floyd County Animal Shelter. 🐾 Today isn’t just about celebrating the dogs who already have a family—it’s about honoring the sweet souls still waiting for theirs. Each dog here has a story, a past they didn’t choose, and a future they’re still dreaming of. Some were abandoned, some lost their way, some were given up on, and others never had the chance to know what a real home feels like. But through it all, they remain resilient, hopeful, and full of love to give.

Walk through our kennels and you’ll see tails wagging, bright eyes shining, and hearts eager for a gentle touch. You’ll meet goofy pups who love toys, shy souls who just need a little patience, seniors who long for a soft place to rest, and young ones ready to grow up alongside a family of their own. They are happy, friendly, beautiful spirits who ask for so little in return—just love, kindness, and a place to belong.

Today, as we celebrate National Dog Day, we hope you’ll look into their faces and see what we see: not just shelter dogs, but future best friends, protectors, hiking partners, couch cuddlers, and loyal companions. They are not broken, they are simply waiting for the right person to choose them.

To the folks living near the shelter, we need to address something that’s been an ongoing issue. Please stop coming up after hours and using our dumpster as your personal trash can. Our dumpster is private and reserved for shelter use only.

Our trash was just collected yesterday, and when we arrived this morning, it was already filled to the brim again. This has been happening for months, and it’s making it extremely difficult for us to manage our own garbage. At one point, it was even piled so high the dumpster tipped over.

We’re pretty certain we know who is doing this, so consider this a polite but firm request: please stop before we’re forced to escalate the situation further. We do have cameras on our property, and this post is meant as a courtesy warning before we take the next steps.

Thank you for respecting our space and helping us keep the shelter running smoothly.

🚨STRAY ALERT🚨

This dog was brought in Tuesday evening after being picked up near the lake it was not wearing a collar at time of intake. Founders put the collar on. This baby is very old, covered in old wounds and missing teeth.
