May is also Pet Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month!

One of the most common health issues we see around the clinic is allergies. Pet allergies can come in different varieties, but we normally categorize them as environmental or food allergies.

Today we'll be discussing environmental allergies! 🌾

As we enter the warmer months, plants and pollen become more of a contributor to pet allergies. Because not all plants are producing allergens at the same time, pets can have allergies that occur a select handful of months or, if they are sensitive to many allergens, they can exhibit allergies for multiple seasons or even year-round.

Mold, mildew and dust mites are other environmental allergens that can cause allergy flare-ups.

Symptoms of allergies in pets are usually seen as frequent itching, licking or chewing at the paws or other parts of their body, and rubbing their face frequently. Other symptoms, like frequent ear infections, can also be an indicator of allergies.

Fortunately, there are many options to treat environmental allergies in pets. If you think your pet may be showing signs of allergies, give us a call to book an appointment so we can help you and your pet navigate them!

Today we'd like to celebrate a very special birthday -- our one and only Tanya!

Tanya, a long-time Veterinary Technician for the clinic, is a truly amazing and knowledgeable caregiver. Between birds, fish, lizards, pocket pets, large and (of course) small animals, she has a vast amount of experience in veterinary medicine all around. Outside of work, Tanya is a world traveler and a hilarious character whose love of friendship and celebrations is second to none.
