🍁November is for Gratitude! Throughout this month, we’re celebrating and shining a spotlight on what we’re most thankful for — our incredible team.🙌

Meet Olivia! 💙🐾
Olivia first joined our team as a veterinary assistant, spending two years building a strong foundation in patient care. After leveling up her technical skills, she came back eight months ago as one of our amazing surgical assistants — and we’re so glad she did!

Born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, Olivia brings a warm, empathetic spirit, a steady hand during dental cleanings, and a true passion for helping animals. She loves making pets feel their best and she thrives on the variety that veterinary medicine brings as she learns something new every day! Working with animals keeps her on her toes, as veterinary assistants wear many hats and face something different with each shift.

When she’s not in the clinic, you’ll find her hiking, camping, and soaking up the outdoors. And if the weather isn’t cooperating? She’s cozied up with a good book or a movie — and of course her sweet Border Collie, Holly.
We’re so proud to have Olivia on our team and can’t wait to continue growing with her as she cares for your pets!

"Hi, I’m Sierra Foster, and I’ve been part of Powell Animal Hospital for over a year now as a kennel caretaker! I help clean and care for all of our boarding patients, making sure they’re as comfortable and happy as possible. I also enjoy lending a hand to my coworkers whenever I can.

From a young age, I’ve been inspired by figures like Steve Irwin, whose love for animals sparked my own passion for veterinary medicine. I’ve always been fascinated by sharks and dream of going cage diving with them one day! I’m currently enrolled in Penn Foster’s Veterinary Assistant program and am excited to continue growing in this field through both knowledge and hands-on experience.

Outside of work, I bartend, enjoy hunting, and love spending time with my friends and family — especially at concerts or movie nights with plenty of laughs from Jim Carrey and Will Ferrell."

We’re so lucky to have Sierra’s caring spirit and energy on our team! Her calm presence makes for a relaxing experience when your pet stays with us ❤️

"Hello there! My name is Lauren Wilson, and I am the newest receptionist at Powell Animal Hospital! I am a born and raised Knoxville girl, and I am a momma to a beautiful 5-year-old little girl.

I wanted a career in veterinary medicine because ever since I can remember, I have had a love and a passion for animals and for helping take good care of them. I grew up always having pets in my home, and as I have entered my adult years, I currently own a silly Tabby cat named Simba and a feisty Australian Shepherd named Indy Mae.

My goal is to always help our clients and patients feel welcomed, cared for, and comfortable when they enter our office. I can't wait to meet you and your sweet fur babies!"

From her dedication and creativity to the laughter she brings to the office, we couldn’t do it without our Medical Director, Dr. Janell Peterson:

"I was born and raised in New Jersey but left 30 years ago to begin college at the University of Tennessee. My love of animals, particularly horses, was the driving force behind my decision to passionately pursue a career in veterinary medicine. I obtained both my B.S. and D.V.M degrees from the University of Tennessee before completing a mixed animal internship (equine and small animal) at Purdue University. After my internship, I became a veterinarian at Powell Animal Hospital in 2004 and have been here ever since.

I am proud to call Powell my home, and live in the area with my husband, twin 17-year-old boys, and our beloved orange cat, Luke Skywhiskers. While I am no longer involved in equine medicine, horses remain a hobby and much of my free time is spent in the barn caring for my "foster horse" and his equine friends. " 🐎💕

🐾 Happy Veterinary Technician Week! 🐾

This week, we pause to recognize and celebrate the incredible work of veterinary technicians and and assistants—the compassionate, skilled, and dedicated professionals who are the backbone of veterinary care. You are heroes in scrubs, and we are so grateful for everything you do.

Our vet technicians and assistants wear many hats. They are:

🩺 Nurses
📋 Lab technicians
🐶 Patient advocates
💉 Anesthesia monitors
❤️ Emotional support for pets and their people
🐾 Educators and communicators
🧠 Problem-solvers under pressure
…and the calm in the storm when emergencies strike.

Behind every healthy pet, every successful surgery, and every comforted pet parent, there’s a veterinary technician working tirelessly—often without the spotlight or the recognition they truly deserve.

Let’s show our appreciation not just this week—but every day.

✨ THANK YOU, VET TECHS! ✨
