Hello new friends! I am so excited to meet you. My name is Athena, and boy have I been on quite the journey to find my way into your life. I came to Animal Aid after a lovely person from my past helped me escape a scary, unsafe living environment. I took some time to recover from open wounds on my body and gain a healthy amount of weight to be in the tip top shape I am now.
I’m learning to love life through fun experiences and new pals. While I have previously lived with other dogs and cats, I’d really prefer to be an only pup and get showered in all the attention. I could get used to living with animals again, but right now I’m a bit overwhelmed with all the unfamiliar experiences. My awesome foster has been helping me find a love for life and a sense of safety.

My favorite things are playing tug, chewing tough treats, and cuddling up to my favorite people. My leash skills are getting much better every day, and I’m a pro and walking by other people and dogs without a care. Lots of noise still stresses me out a bit, so apartment life might be a bit too chaotic for me.
I’m great with kids (if they don’t mind a goofy, energetic player). Despite some really tough traumas, I’ve impressed everyone with my resilience and love for new human besties. Animal Aid is dedicated to helping set me up for success, so don’t hesitate to ask about any assistance you may want to make me a forever family member.

I’m allergic to chicken but otherwise in great health. I’m in a foster home, so please fill out an application at animalaidpdx.org to meet me!

who are also past adopters! Congratulations!

We couldn’t be happier for him! Thank you all for caring and sharing about this big guy. Like a match on Tinder, he’s officially off the market!

Back in April, we launched the newest extension of our It Takes a Pack program - focused on supporting dog guardians and their pups 🐶💛 From harness fittings to puppy supply kits, we hit the road to help keep pets with their guardians.

Formally launched in 2021, It Takes a Pack is our community supply-sharing initiative. When we receive more than we can use, we share the love with rescues, outreach groups, and pet parents across Portland.

Whether it’s food, leashes, or litter, the goal is simple: prevent surrenders and grow a network of mutual aid 🫶

Paint, Pussycats & Pastries!

Our auction winner(s) came into the shelter and got to “paint” with the cats! We had yummy snacks and then set to work enticing the cats to roll, paw and move the paint around on the canvas in plastic bags! Here are the results!

Whisker Wednesday Spotlight: Quinta!🐈‍⬛️

Quinta might start off a bit shy (with some dramatic hisses for flair), but give her time and she’ll be purring up a storm in your lap. This gentle girl is all about slow love, long petting sessions, and wet food feasts.

Rescued after an eviction and now ready to evict loneliness from your life—forever! She’s feline fine after a recent dental, loves chill cat friends, and is looking for a calm, loving home (no small kids, please).

Whisker Wednesday: Double the floof, double the fun!

Meet Locke (orange) & Hobbes (grey + white)—a purrfectly bonded pair who are looking for a chill forever home together.

These two were abandoned in an apartment, but they’ve stuck together through it all.

🐈‍⬛️Hobbes is a softie who’s feeling shy right now, but has a loving heart once he feels safe.
🐈Locke is a pro snuggler who may try to crawl into your hoodie—don’t say we didn’t warn you!

I've been so busy I forgot to post my next market! I'll be at artisans for animals event this Saturday in Beaverton! Come support local businesses AND animals! 25% of our profits go to Animal Aid PDX!

I'll have plants, pollinator watering stations, handmade eco-printed pouches, plant and fungi dyes tea towels and napkins (and a few pairs of socks), a few tinctures, teas, plant based non-toxic candles, botanical art and garden planners with storage for seeds! Did you know 90% of the plants/fungi used in my goods/art come from ones I personally grow or forage? Hope to see you Saturday, local small businesses and the animals could really use your support!
