Animal Aid, Inc. Animal Aid of Portland is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue and welfare organization, passionately serving animals and the people they love since 1969.

It Takes A Pack in action: April 13th, 2025

Newest extension of the Pack program with
an emphasis on assisting dog owners and their pups.
We fitted lots of harnesses and provided young puppies proper supplies for their development.

This program has the goal of preventing the need for surrenders & connecting with the community.

We distributed three cars worth of donations
& helped out about 45 pet owners all together.

Whisker Wednesday Spotlight: Portobello & Chanterelle! 🍄

Meet this dynamic sibling duo, Portobello & Chanterelle! These two were heartbreakingly abandoned but haven’t let that dim their loving spirits. Now, they’re looking for a forever home—together! ❤️

🐱 Portobello is a big love bug at 22 lbs (aiming for 18!). He adores people and will happily snuggle up in your lap or by your side.

🐱 Chanterelle is just as affectionate and soft as her name suggests. She’ll come right up to you for pets and cuddles.

They’re bonded, which means double the love, double the snuggles, and double the joy! Could your home be their happy ending?

Whisker Wednesday: Meet Keely & Oona! 🐾🐱🐱

Looking for double the love? Keely & Oona are the ultimate lap cat duo who are ready to snuggle their way into your heart! 💕 These bonded besties are sweet, affectionate, and playful—true velcro cats who will keep you warm with their cuddles.

Keely is a gentle, calm, and petite lap cat who also loves to play, while Oona is an energetic little jumper who will climb right up for pets! They’ve both had past dental issues but are now happy, healthy, and thriving. Due to a past calicivirus infection, they need to be the only cats or live with other kitties who have had the virus.

Currently in a loving foster home, these two can’t wait to find their forever family! If you’re ready for non-stop cuddles, learn more about them on our site or fill out an application to meet them.

We were part of December Giving for 2024! Because of generous patrons, we were gifted a check for over $22,000!
•
With the money we received we will be able to provide vet care including: vaccinations, prescription food and medications, physical therapy, enrichment, cleaning supplies to keep our shelter smelling fresh and clean, and any unexpected emergency medical vet care for the animals in our care!

We are grateful for the opportunity to have partnered with Plaid Pantry and with one so
close to the shelter, it’s a win-win for the local economy too!

Cerebellar hypoplasia is a condition where the cerebellum, a part of the brain responsible for balance, coordination, and fine motor skills, is underdeveloped or smaller than normal

Trooper says "so what" and doesn't let his diagnosis slow him down! While he was waiting for his forever home, he thrived in our main room where he made lots of friends. Now in his forever home, he has a feline sibling and has even taught himself how to get on the couch by himself!

Meet Bleu, a petite and gentle older lady who’s searching for a loving home to enjoy her golden years. Bleu’s journey hasn’t been easy—she lost one of her people, and when her other person could no longer care for her, she was surrendered to us. While she previously lived with other animals, she prefers the company of people and loves nothing more than a cozy lap to curl up in.

Bleu is part of our Heartstrings Program, which helps harder-to-place animals find the care and support they need. She has hyperthyroidism and early-stage kidney disease, which means she gets subQ fluids a few times a week and takes a small dose of heart medication. Despite it all, Bleu remains sweet, engaging, and full of love. Her adorable raspy meow and gentle nature make her a wonderful companion.

While Bleu is currently in foster care, she’s still waiting for her forever home. Could that be with you? Or can you help spread the word so she finds the comfort and care she deserves?

Our Story

Animal Aid is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill animal rescue and welfare organization that has been passionately serving animals and the people they love since 1969. We operate a free-roam shelter for cats, a foster program for cats and dogs, and two community programs: The Animal Aid Cares Fund, a partnership with veterinarians across Portland to provide financial assistance for urgent vet care, and C-SNIP (Canine Spay/Neuter in Portland) a partnership with PAW Team to provide funding for canine spay/neuter services to homeless and low-income families.
