Now is a great time to get your pup microchipped if they aren’t! It is a month of June special at the Columbia County Humane Society
IMPORTANT PSA! PLEASE READ! Good morning supporters! We were made aware of a situation that occurred in Columbia County involving a lost dog, and we got permission from the parties involved to share their story. A Columbia County resident posted that her dog had slipped out of the house and was missing in the Wisconsin Dells area. The day after making this post, she was contacted by an individual claiming her dog was found and was currently being prepped to undergo emergency surgery at the Lodi Veterinary Clinic. In an effort to receive money from the resident, they told her she had to pay before they could continue with the necessary lifesaving surgery procedures. While all of this was happening, one of our after-hours employees was dispatched to the Wisconsin Dells to pick up a small stray dog. Luckily, the employee seen the missing poster and contacted the resident. Obviously, the story wasn’t adding up one way or another, and we knew something wasn’t right. We had her dog, but a man was telling her otherwise. The resident was also hesitant and refused payment due to the conflicting stories. We were able to communicate with her today and she was relieved to hear that her dog was safe and will be picking him up. We are sharing this story to encourage everyone to be diligent if you find yourself in a similar situation. It’s unfortunate that others will take advantage of someone during a vulnerable moment to scam them out of money. Posting lost dog posters has helped hundreds of families reunite with their loved pets, but unfortunately it can also make you a target for scammers. A report will be filed in this case and hopefully the person is caught! Lodi Veterinary Clinic had no knowledge of the situation and never seen the dog, they were unfairly dragged into the chaos in order to gain the resident’s trust. Never give financial information over the phone!
WE CAN OFFER SOME HELP! We are currently running a microchip clinic special, we highly recommend taking advantage of this! It’s one extra step you can take to help ensure your pets make their way home safely. The price is only $15 for the first 10 appointments, and $20 after that. The special is running for the whole month of June. Please call CCHS if you’d like to set up an appointment.
