Two members of our pack went to the vet recently for their annual exams. 🐾

Very different vet office energy was present. 😂

Edison: “I’d like some extra treats, please.”

Jax: “I would like to formally request to be removed from this establishment immediately.” 😭

Anyone else have dogs with very different vet visit vibes? 🩵

What we brought to our vet visit with our two reactive dogs:
🐾 High-value treats
🐶 A muzzle
🐕 Well-fitting collars
🐶 Non-retractable leashes

We also try to bring positive, steady energy into vet appointments, and we avoid big “vet trip speeches” beforehand like, “Let’s go to the vet!” Because dogs pick up on our tone and energy, “vet visit speeches” can accidentally signal that something stressful or unusual is about to happen.

Today, Maverick the Goldendoodle went to Bark in the Park, hosted by Raw Rations Pet Food and Wellness and the Sauk Prairie Recreation Department, in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin.🐾☀️

He made new friends, posed for photos, sampled treats like a tiny, discerning food critic, and came home with enough goodies to keep him and the rest of our pack happy for awhile. 😂

Shoutout to everyone who said hi to him. Nothing makes Maverick happier than love from new aunts and uncles and making people happy. 🩵

Our newest pack member Saoirse the 5-month-old Bernedoodle is learning (and growing) quickly. 🥰🐾

Here’s what’s helped us get her to a place where she can explore the world outside our home:

🐾 Had first training session with a trainer
👩‍🏫 Daily training with us from the first day she came home that’s a mix of fun (Like spin!) and practical (Like leave it) - We keep it short, frequent and positive.
🚫 No rewarding unwanted behaviors with attention
🏡 Practicing leash skills across different surfaces and in new environments

What we’re working through:

🐶 Demand barking at people and dogs when she wants something, from attention to toys
🐾 Learning that greeting people and dogs is only allowed with permission, not assumed

What she’s got down so far:

✔️ Sit
✔️ Down
✔️ Here
✔️ Paw
✔️ High-five
✔️ Spin

Raising a well-mannered, confident dog isn’t about perfection. It’s about consistency, clarity, and building their confidence in themselves and us people as their leaders. 🩵

🌸 Dog Parent Spring Cleaning Checklist 🐾

✔️ Deep clean kennels and backseat cover.
✔️ Wash dog beds and blankets.
✔️ Clean food and water bowls.
✔️ Wash collars and leashes.
✔️ Clean dog brushes.
✔️ Go through dog toys, checking for ones that need to be thrown away. (We won’t tell the dogs, if you don’t 🤫)
✔️ Restock waste bags and paw wipes for your spring and summer adventures.
✔️ Wash dog clothes and accessories for the fun months ahead.
