🌟 Spotlight: Sparky! 🌟

Sparky came to ACCT Philly on July 23rd after a caller reported that someone had placed her on their porch overnight. She was safely brought to the shelter and has been settling in since. 💛

At just 8 months old, Sparky is still learning about the world—but she’s already showing us what a sweet and gentle pup she is.

Sparky is curious and observant, preferring to sniff her surroundings and occasionally engage in a friendly game of chase. She takes treats gently, is responsive to whoever is walking/hanging out with her, and doesn’t bark much at all. A recent day-trip foster described her as calm, affectionate, and wonderful on leash. She might need a little extra encouragement at times, but her loving nature shines through. 🐾

If you’re interested in fostering or adopting Sparky, please email [email protected] or visit www.acctphilly.org to learn more!

🎉 A HUGE shoutout to our incredible friends at MSPCA-Angell for welcoming 10 of our dogs—9 of them large breeds—into their care! 🐶💛 Not only did these lucky pups get a second chance, but 10 more kennels are now open to help dogs in need. 🐾✨

This wouldn’t have been possible without some amazing people:
🚗Our rockstar volunteers who drove 7 hours one way to make sure the dogs arrived safely
🏡 Our amazing fosters who gave these dogs a place to crash before their journey.
👥 And of course, our incredible staff who worked behind the scenes to coordinate it all.

We’re beyond grateful to everyone who played a part in making this transport a success! 💪🐕‍🦺❤️

Thanks to our partnership with national nonprofit Petco Love and their initiative, we had a very successful Pet Fair and Vaccine Clinic at Saunders Park this past Saturday!

In addition to providing over 300 free pet vaccinations, families were also able to access a free pet food pantry and supplies, dog licensing, and spay/neuter resources. Attendees also had the chance to meet adoptable foster dogs from ACCT Philly and connect with Rep. Amen Brown and his team who hosted the pet fair.

We’re in urgent need of donations!

In just the last week, 189 dogs and 378 cats came through our doors. With that many animals needing care, we are quickly running out of kitten supplies and enrichment items for our dogs!

Right now, we’re especially in need of:
🧸 Enrichment items for our dogs – toys, chews, puzzles
🍼 Kitten supplies – formula, bottles, wet food, litter
🍖 Treats – for both dogs and cats!

Kitten season is in full swing, and our shelter is doing everything we can to keep up—but we need your help. 💛

If you’re able to donate, you can drop items off at the shelter or order directly from our Amazon or Chewy Wishlist!

🚨 Missing -- Please Help Us Find King! 🚨

UPDATE: 7/27 King was spotted at D street and Clearfield at 730pm he was not found when our officers went out but we will be posting the area in hopes of more sightings

7/23 King was seen at 4:30pm at 7th street and Venango Ave.
7/22 he was seen near 8th and Tioga.
PLEASE do not try to catch him, he is very scared and will run. Please call or text with any sightings, even if a few hours old or more, as it helps us know if he is staying in one area.

Original post:
Early Tuesday morning around 5:30 a.m., a very fearful dog named King managed to escape from our shelter. King had been staying in an office for his comfort, as he’s very nervous in the shelter environment. We had the door tied shut for safety, but he was smart and determined—he somehow opened that door, and then managed to open the door to the outside.

He was seen heading onto Hunting Park Ave towards Hunting Park.

King is extremely fearful, so we are asking DO NOT try to chase or catch him, as this could scare him further or cause him to bite out of fear or to run into danger.

📱 If you see King, please call immediately at (267) 385-3800 ext.1. Please leave a voicemail if we do not answer as they are on the other line. Or text (215) 484-8885 of sightings and photos. Sightings are crucial to helping us find him.

Please share and keep an eye out if you’re in the area.

📢Join us for a FREE Pet Fair at Saunders Park on Saturday, July 26th from 9am to 1pm at 300-50 Saunders Ave in West Philadelphia, where ACCT Philly will be hosting a vaccine clinic! 📢

ACCT Philly is excited to offer free rabies, DHPP, and FVRCP vaccines to the first 200 pets, thanks to national nonprofit Petco Love and their initiative. This national effort helps protect pets from deadly but preventable diseases like parvovirus, distemper, and panleukopenia. With an estimated 30% of pet parents not seeking regular preventative care, this event aims to make critical services more accessible for Philly families and their pets.

In addition to vaccines, we’ll have a free pet food pantry and supplies (while they last), pet nail trims, dog licensing, and spay/neuter resources. You can also meet adoptable foster dogs from ACCT Philly and connect with Rep. Amen Brown and his team.

🐶Dogs must be leashed
🐱Cats must be in carriers

This vaccine clinic is generously powered by Petco Love. We hope to see you there!

If you follow us, you’ve heard it before: “We’re full.” “We’re desperate for fosters.” “We need help.” We say it often because, heartbreakingly, it’s true far too often.

Our shelter is overwhelmed. No matter how hard we work, there simply isn’t enough space. The dogs who’ve been here the longest—the big, beautiful ones with the kind eyes and wagging tails—are the ones most at risk.

We’re asking our community to step up in any way they can:

❤️ Foster: Take home a large dog between now and Sunday, July 13th, keep them for at least four weeks, and receive a $250 gift card as our thank you. Just send us a few photos, a video, and a bio within the first 10 days to help us get them adopted.

🏡 Adopt: If you’ve been thinking about adding a dog to your family, now is the time. Thanks to the BISSELL Pet Foundation, all adoption fees are just $10 through July 19th. There are so many amazing dogs waiting to meet you.

If you’re not sure how to start or where to begin—email us! at [email protected] or [email protected]. We’re here, and we’ll walk you through it every step of the way. 💌

🎆 Keep Your Pets Safe This Fourth of July! 🎆

The Fourth of July is one of the most common times for pets to go missing. 😱 Fireworks, parties, and loud noises can cause even the calmest pets to panic and run. Make sure your furry friends are safe and secure this holiday!

Here are a few important safety tips to help keep your pets safe this Independence Day:

🔸 Check their collar & ID tags: Make sure your pet is wearing a secure collar with an ID tag that includes your current phone number. No tag? No problem—write your number on duct tape and stick it to their collar temporarily.
🔸 Update their microchip info: Microchips only work if the contact info is correct! Many pets arrive at ACCT with chips that aren’t registered or have outdated information 😞 You can register or update your pet’s chip for free at freepetchipregistry.com.
🔸 Leave pets at home during fireworks: Even the most relaxed pets can become frightened or bolt during loud displays. Keep them indoors with a safe space, some white noise, and their favorite toys.
🔸 Double-check outdoor spaces: If your dog goes outside, make sure gates are secured and fences are locked. Supervise them whenever they’re in the yard—scared pets can escape quickly.

🐾 If You Find a Lost Pet:
Before bringing them to ACCT, check the neighborhood where the pet was found—many dogs are picked up just blocks from home.
➡️ See what to do if you find a pet: https://acctphilly.org/found-a-pet/

🐾 Can You Temporarily Hold the Pet?
If it’s safe to do so, bring the pet to us to be scanned for a microchip and file a found report—this keeps them out of the shelter, which is over capacity right now.

🐾 Have You Lost Your Pet?
Please come to the shelter in person (or send a friend or family member) to look for them—many animals come in without clear identifying info.

☀️ We’re thrilled to be participating in the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s event this summer! There’s no better time to add a furry friend to your life—longer days, sunny skies, and adventures just waiting to be shared. 🐾

From July 5th–19th, adoption fees are just $10 for all pets—whether you’re looking to adopt a dog 🐶, cat 🐱, or critter 🐰.

This includes animals currently in foster care too—they’d love to find their forever home and avoid a return to the shelter (Please note the adoption will need to be finalized at the shelter).🏡❤️

🎉 Start your summer with love, companionship, and maybe even a new hiking buddy or porch snuggler.

📅 Be sure to mark your calendar and fill out an application in advance so we have it on file!

A huge thank you to Cathy Bissell and the BISSELL Pet Foundation for making this lifesaving event possible!
