Our Story
Street Tails Animal Rescue (STAR) began in 2001 as a humble one-woman effort led by Lindsay Condefer. From her pet store, The Chic Petique, Lindsay poured her heart and soul into rescuing dogs and finding them loving homes. In 2010, with the steadfast support of friends, supporters, and a dedicated board of directors, Lindsay's vision expanded. Street Tails Animal Rescue transitioned to

its own dedicated location, a testament to its commitment to making a difference in the lives of homeless and abandoned dogs in the Philadelphia area. Our Unique Approach
What sets Street Tails Animal Rescue apart is our distinctive approach, powered by just two full-time staff members. While many larger organizations boast extensive teams, our small but mighty team oversees every aspect of our rescue operation. From fundraising and social media outreach to the hands-on care of each and every dog that enters our doors, our dedicated staff ensures that every animal receives the attention, love, and support they need to thrive. Our Mission
At Street Tails Animal Rescue, our mission is unwavering: to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs in need. We are committed to pulling local animals out of shelters and providing them with the care and love they deserve. Each life we save reinforces our belief that every animal, regardless of their background, deserves the chance for a brighter future.

Our mission is made possible by the dedication of our two full-time staff members, our passionate volunteers, and the guidance of our committed board of directors. Together, we work tirelessly to ensure that every dog that comes through our doors receives the care, attention, and support they need to thrive. Our Impact
Since our inception, Street Tails Animal Rescue has made a significant impact in the lives of countless animals and families. With the support of our community, we have been able to exponentially increase the number of animals we rescue and rehome each year. Our success stories are a testament to the power of compassion and the difference that can be made when we come together to help those in need. As we look to the future, we remain committed to our mission of saving lives and making a difference in the lives of animals in our community. We invite you to join us in our efforts and become a part of our mission to ensure that every dog knows they are wanted and loved. www.streettails.org

Rescue work is strongest when it’s rooted in community. We were grateful to be invited to ’s Jingle & Mingle with Santa alongside other local organizations doing important work for animals and people alike.

Thank you to Franklin Square for recognizing that animal welfare belongs in shared community spaces — especially during the holidays. This is how lasting change is built. 🎄 🌟 🐶

Pearl has been trying. 🤍

She found a home once, but her signature high-five was misunderstood. She found another, but the resident dog just wasn’t comfortable.

None of that makes Pearl difficult. It makes her unlucky so far.

Pearl is affectionate, expressive, and uses her paws to say “hi, I’m here, I love you.” She means no harm—only connection. She feels most confident living with dogs her size or smaller, or she’d also be perfectly happy soaking up all the love as an only dog.

She’s warm (emotionally and literally—she loves a cozy fire) and still believes her person is out there.

Sometimes the right match just takes longer. Pearl is worth the wait. ✨

If anyone recognizes this dog or knows the individual who tied her up—described as wearing a fresh cast on their right arm—please report this incident to the proper authorities for animal abandonment!

We understand that people experience crisis. We understand that times get hard. But abandoning a dog—especially by tying them to an object and walking away—is not okay and is never the right solution.

Earlier today, someone came to our door with this dog, saying she was theirs and that they wanted to surrender her.

At this time, our large kennels are full, so we directed them to ACCT, the city shelter equipped for immediate intake. They didn’t have a leash, so we provided a slip lead and were told “we’re heading straight there”…

About ten minutes later, a Good Samaritan brought her back to our door. She had been found howling, tied to a pole.

That Good Samaritan immediately stepped in—taking her to a local veterinary hospital to be checked out and helping ensure she finds her way to safety.

This dog deserved safety, dignity, and compassion. Shame on you. 😒
