Our Story
Street Tails Animal Rescue (STAR) began in 2001 as a humble one-woman effort led by Lindsay Condefer. From her pet store, The Chic Petique, Lindsay poured her heart and soul into rescuing dogs and finding them loving homes. In 2010, with the steadfast support of friends, supporters, and a dedicated board of directors, Lindsay's vision expanded. Street Tails Animal Rescue transitioned to

its own dedicated location, a testament to its commitment to making a difference in the lives of homeless and abandoned dogs in the Philadelphia area. Our Unique Approach
What sets Street Tails Animal Rescue apart is our distinctive approach, powered by just two full-time staff members. While many larger organizations boast extensive teams, our small but mighty team oversees every aspect of our rescue operation. From fundraising and social media outreach to the hands-on care of each and every dog that enters our doors, our dedicated staff ensures that every animal receives the attention, love, and support they need to thrive. Our Mission
At Street Tails Animal Rescue, our mission is unwavering: to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs in need. We are committed to pulling local animals out of shelters and providing them with the care and love they deserve. Each life we save reinforces our belief that every animal, regardless of their background, deserves the chance for a brighter future.

Our mission is made possible by the dedication of our two full-time staff members, our passionate volunteers, and the guidance of our committed board of directors. Together, we work tirelessly to ensure that every dog that comes through our doors receives the care, attention, and support they need to thrive. Our Impact
Since our inception, Street Tails Animal Rescue has made a significant impact in the lives of countless animals and families. With the support of our community, we have been able to exponentially increase the number of animals we rescue and rehome each year. Our success stories are a testament to the power of compassion and the difference that can be made when we come together to help those in need. As we look to the future, we remain committed to our mission of saving lives and making a difference in the lives of animals in our community. We invite you to join us in our efforts and become a part of our mission to ensure that every dog knows they are wanted and loved. www.streettails.org

We get it.. not everyone loves the idea of kennel-based rescues. But for a lot of dogs, this is where hope begins.

At Street Tails, we’re a small but mighty kennel-based rescue, usually just two staff members on a shift, backed by an incredible crew of volunteers who show up every single day. Together, we care for dogs who come straight from Philadelphia’s only open intake shelter and give them the second chance they deserve.

Rescue takes every type of effort — shelters, rescues, fosters, and volunteers — all working together for one shared goal: saving lives.

Happy National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week to all the shelters, volunteers, and rescue teams out there making a difference every day! ❤️

No two days are the same around here — except for the part where there’s always a dog involved 🐕

Charleston Chew has entered the chat 🍫
And yes, he is as scrumptious as his name suggests.

This easygoing king has A+ house manners, loves his dog crew, and thinks every party is slightly improved by his presence (he’s not wrong).

He’s the total package. Chill when you need peace, social when it’s time to shine, and just the right amount of goofy to keep things interesting. Basically, he’s perfection and he is now accepting applications for his #1 fan. 🫶

This pup’s got tricks, treats, and extra cheese! 🌮🎃

Halloween can be exciting but stressful for dogs, so keeping them safe and comfortable is key. It’s perfectly okay if your dog doesn’t want to be part of the festivities! Ensure ID tags are visible and microchips are up to date. Loud noises and frequent doorbell rings can be scary—provide a quiet space with toys and water. Use extra safety measures like baby gates or leashes to keep dogs secure indoors. Make sure costumes fit properly and don’t restrict movement, breathing, or vision. Keep dogs away from chocolate, candy with xylitol, grapes, or other toxic treats. Avoid candles, jack-o’-lanterns, and crowded doorways to prevent burns. Always supervise interactions with visitors or other pets for a safe, happy night.

A little spooky, a lot of safe—enjoy Halloween 👻

Ludwig’s learning and growing. 💙
Staff members took him to his behavioral training appointment with the behavior team.

Ludwig has been with us for some time now, and we’re dedicated to helping him navigate the world in ways that make him feel safe and confident. Since he’s deaf, we focused on muzzle work, down stays, scratch board training for nail care, and new collar training to improve communication.

He did amazing and made sure to sample every snack Jen had in the office. 🐾

Ongoing behavioral support like this takes time, patience, and resources. If you’d like to help us continue this important work for Ludwig and dogs like him, please consider making a small, tax-deductible donation.
