WE NEED YOUR HELP. OUR BUNNIES ARE COUNTING ON US!

We’re reaching out again because, honestly, our rescue really needs our community right now.
We’ve had multiple medical rabbits and the costs of vet visits, medications, and ongoing treatments are adding up faster than we can keep up with. We can’t do this alone. ❤️

Many of you have seen updates about Haven, and we’re so thankful that he’s healing. He’s started a new antibiotic, and we’re continuing to do everything we can to help him recover. But he’s not the only bunny who needs us right now.

Our goal is to raise $1,500 to help cover our rescue’s medical expenses.

We know $1,500 sounds like a lot, but what if we reached that goal together?

MEDICAL BUNS = LOTS OF VET BILLS!!

3 buns went to vist our vet on Tuesday and all 3 are medical disasters!

Haven is doing well but he now has an abscess, but we are optimistic about his healing process! We are switching his antibiotics and making sure to keep his area clean and clear of debris and anything else that could make his healing worse. He’s not technically a disaster but he is still in his healing journey!

Speaking of Journey, our big English Lop girl is going to have all her front teeth pulled! They are pretty bad but buns do perfectly well without those front teeth. She actually has a home but we are helping out to get her teeth all figured out ❤️

Lastly Nugget went and we will be scheduling him an amputation for his hind leg. It’s doing him no good right now and has been causing mobility issues as he’s grown. He’s only 6 months old and is 7 pounds!

Huge medical issues means huge medical bills at our vets. We use Donaldson Animal Hospital and if you want to send a donation directly towards our outstanding balance you can!! Thank you all for your constant support ❤️

Hey guys, we could really use some donation assistance as we have had a lot of medical rabbits recently come into our small rescue. If anyone can even donate a dollar or five dollars that would greatly impact how we can help these rabbits!!

Haven on the other hand is healing pretty well but we are starting a new antibiotic here shortly for him. We do thank you all for your constant outpouring support.

SHE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SPAYED. SHE HAD CANCER INSTEAD.
Please take a moment to read this. It could save your bunny’s life. 💔🐰

We want to share the story of a very special girl currently in our rescue. Due to the sensitive circumstances surrounding her arrival, we cannot share all the details. But there is one part of her story that EVERY rabbit owner needs to hear.We were told this bunny had already been spayed.

When we examined her, we couldn't find a spay scar or tattoo to confirm that the procedure had ever been done. Rather than take someone else's word for it and risk her health, we made the decision to have her examined and spayed.

What the vet found was heartbreaking. She had developed uterine cancer.

This isn't just a story about one bunny. It's a reminder of why spaying and neutering rabbits is SO much more important than simply preventing unwanted babies.

The incidence of uterine cancer in unspayed female rabbits can reach 50–80%, particularly those over 3–4 years of age. The risk is significant, and it increases as an unspayed rabbit gets older. Uterine adenocarcinoma can also spread to other organs and become fatal.

Spaying and neutering rabbits is about so much more than preventing pregnancy:

❤️ CANCER PREVENTION: Spaying eliminates the risk of uterine cancer and prevents many other reproductive health problems.
❤️ BETTER BEHAVIOR: Altered rabbits are often less territorial and less likely to display hormone-driven aggression, mounting, and urine spraying.
❤️ BETTER LITTER HABITS: Spaying and neutering often make litter box habits more consistent.

If your bunny is not spayed or neutered please make it a priority.

WE MET A CELEBRITY!

Dolly's Dream Home Rabbit Rescue was at Mid West BunFest! We totally didn’t go to just meet Cobbler!!

We will also be a Rescue Partner next year here!! We were so happy to meet all these wonderful rescues and bunny lovers!

💔 HOW MANY MORE BUNNIES HAVE TO SUFFER BEFORE WE LEARN?

First, I want to say that WE ARE FULL. But, I want to share a few sentences from an email I received today and you will understand why we took in 2 more bunnies. Please know that I am not sharing this to shame or attack this family. I’m sharing it because I believe it highlights a very real problem that we see far too often in rabbit rescue.

The email read:
“We have 2 kind rabbits that need the proper care and love for them. We recently got them for my 11 yr old but sadly my 2&3 yr old have put them in the toilet etc sad stories…. I just don't want them to continue to have a sad scared life here. Can you take them in?”

I do want to thank this parent for reaching out before these bunnies were seriously hurt or worse. Recognizing when a situation isn't safe and asking for help matters.

Guys, rabbits are not great pets for young children. They are not starter pets. And they should never be purchased or adopted with the expectation that a child will be responsible for their care.

Rabbits are delicate, sensitive prey animals. They can easily be injured by rough handling, chasing, grabbing, or being picked up incorrectly. They need a calm, safe environment, gentle and respectful interactions, and an adult who fully understands and is prepared to meet their needs.

Little children and rabbits are simply not a safe combination without constant, close adult supervision. Little children don't yet have the understanding or impulse control to consistently recognize when an animal is frightened, uncomfortable, or needs space. Even with the sweetest intentions, a child can unintentionally hurt a rabbit.

And then there's the other side of it. A bunny may be purchased as a pet for a child, but when the child loses interest, or the reality of rabbit care becomes overwhelming, the responsibility falls on the parents. Too often, that rabbit ends up neglected, rehomed, surrendered, or in a rescue like ours.

We have seen countless bunnies come through our rescue for these very reasons. Rabbits who deserved a safe, loving home but instead found themselves frightened, mishandled, or no longer wanted.

So, parents, please think carefully before bringing a rabbit into your home for your child.

Please don't get a bunny because your child wants one without first asking yourself:

❤️Am I prepared to be this rabbit's primary caregiver for the next 8–12 years or longer?
❤️ Can I provide the proper housing, diet, veterinary care, enrichment, and daily attention this rabbit needs?
❤️ Will I protect this rabbit from rough handling and make sure interactions with my children are always safe?
❤️ If my child loses interest, will I still love, care for, and take responsibility for this rabbit for the rest of its life?

If the answer to those questions is yes, and your family is ready to welcome a rabbit for the right reasons, great! But they are not low-maintenance pets, toys, or disposable childhood experiences.

I'm asking that we please stop normalizing rabbits as good pets for young children and start educating families before a bunny comes home, rather than after something goes wrong. Because by then, it's often the rabbit who pays the price. 💔

Please share this post. The more people understand about bunnies before bringing them home, the more bunnies we can protect from ending up scared, neglected, or needing rescue.

Let's do better for the bunnies. They deserve nothing less.

Hey guys! It’s Haven here! His leg is not broken!! BUT there is a severe infection which you can see in the picture. He is going to have the leg amputated on Tuesday (10-20). The price of it is anywhere between $400-600. We have raised a little bit towards this procedure but it will still cost an arm…
