His name is Downey and he was a local emergency intake. His elderly "human mother" has dementia and was not able to care for him or herself. She was in the process of moving in with an adult daughter whose apartment did not allow dogs when the intake occurred. They had tried so many shelters, even the large ones, but were told that they were full or could not take a senior dog. The Daughter booked a weekend stay at the Red Roof Inn to allow her Mom time to say goodbye because they were planning eutheasia at the end of the weekend due to desperation and nowhere for Downey to go. We received an email from the daughter with what was her last reach out. We did an emergency intake eval the very next day in the Lobby of the Red Roof Inn.... and found him to be the sweetest boy. We proceeded with intake on the spot. He was safe and the family going though troubles was comforted knowing he would be cared for. He was vetted a few days later and found to be heartworm positive. He is now under treatment. We have a little bit to go with the journey and diagnostics... But he is felt to be doing very well :)
We are an all-volunteer group who dedicate our time and devotion to assure the care of all under our care. Many of us contribute when we can. But.... like the old saying goes… “It takes a village”..
