Paws what youโ€™re doing! Thereโ€™s an adorable new duo at The Living Desert. ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿฑ

Two months ago, these bobcat siblings were found abandoned in a cardboard box on a driveway in Oregon. At only 4 weeks old and with no mother in sight, they had no chance of survival on their own, and their future looked uncertain โ€” but their story was just beginning.

A new path forward was made possible thanks to the quick action of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and The Living Desert. On May 1, two of our dedicated Animal Care Curators traveled to Oregon and safely drove them back to their new home.

Since retrieving the siblings, our expert team has bottle-fed, monitored, and nurtured every step of the way to ensure their health and wellbeing. Because of the circumstances in which they were found, these bobcats canโ€™t return to the wild. Instead, theyโ€™ll spend their lives here under our care โ€” growing, playing, and serving as ambassadors for their species.

Now at 10 weeks of age, the kittens are officially in Eagle Canyon, and you wonโ€™t want to miss them! Theyโ€™ve started exploring their permanent habitat, showing off their best climbing moves, pouncing skills, and non-stop kitten zoomies. ๐Ÿพ

Thanks to a heartfelt gesture from longtime Zoo supporters, these kittens were given names that honor the memory of two cherished parents whose legacy of love lives on here at the Zoo.

Welcome home, JoAnn and David. ๐Ÿ’›

Every legend has a beginning! Hear how Jedi's began in a land not so far, far away.... ๐ŸฆŠ

Jedi, the San Joaquin kit fox, was found in the wild with a rare condition called ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ฐ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜จ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ญ ๐˜ฅ๐˜ช๐˜ท๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ถ๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ, which causes food to build up in his throat and made eating difficult. After careful evaluation, wildlife professionals determined that, while his condition is manageable, it requires lifelong care and has the potential to be passed on to future generations. Because of this, Jedi couldn't be released back into the wild.

But his story was far from over.

Today, Jedi is thriving in his new home at The Living Desert. He receives specialized care, along with daily enrichment and training that support his health and wellbeing. Heโ€™s smart, curious, and a total star. ๐ŸŒŸ

Now, as a conservation ambassador for his federally endangered species, Jedi proves that even the smallest heroes can spark big change.๐Ÿงก
