🎃👻 We had some special little visitors stop by the office today for a little trick-or-treating! 🍬

What a JOY it is to see all these kiddos dressed up in their Halloween costumes! Their smiles, excitement, and adorable outfits definitely made our day a little sweeter! 🧡

🐾 Meet the Team Wednesday🐾

This week, we’re shining the spotlight on our veterinary assistant, Madison Brown (Madi)! 💚

Madi has been part of the Kirk Vet family since 2022, and if there’s one thing you’ll quickly learn about her, it’s that she LOVES to laugh! 😂 She brings so much joy, laughter, and fun to our team, and we’re so happy to have her as part of the crew!

🐶 A few fun facts about Madi:
🐾 She’s a proud dog mom to her Rottweiler pup, Odin! 🖤
🐾 No, you’re not seeing double! 👀 Madi has a twin sister who ALSO works here at Kirk Vet!
🐾 Outside of the clinic, she helps her boyfriend work pigs and spends time attending pig shows. 🐷
🐾 She’s also working toward another big goal: becoming a credentialed nurse in the human medical field! 🩺 We’re cheering her on every step of the way!

We’re so thankful to have Madi on our team and love the laughter and happiness she brings to Kirk Vet!💚🐾

Part of our Kirk Vet team — Dr. Ty, Anita, Jen, and Amber — spent this weekend in St. Louis attending the PSIvet Business Symposium! 📚

We had a great time learning new things, gaining valuable insights, and bringing home ideas that will help us continue to improve our practice and provide the best possible care for our patients. 🩺🐶🐱 We’re always looking for ways to learn, grow, and be better for the pets and people who count on us!

And this trip was extra special because the newest member of the Kirk family, Miss Kendall, joined us, too! 💕 She had the best time making so many new friends along the way! ❤️

Of course, we squeezed in a little fun, too! We visited the iconic Gateway Arch and enjoyed the incredible views from the top! 🌆

We’re coming home with new knowledge, fresh ideas, and some wonderful memories together! ❤️

🐾 Meet the Team Wednesday🐾

It’s Veterinary Technician Week, and we’re excited to introduce you to one of our future RVTs, Katie McFarland! 💙🩺

Katie first joined the Kirk Vet family as an intern while attending Orleans High School, and we quickly knew we wanted her on our team! She was soon hired as a veterinary assistant and has been working toward her dream of becoming a registered veterinary technician ever since. 🎓

Katie is currently attending Purdue University’s Veterinary Technology program and is set to graduate in May 2027! We are so proud of her hard work and dedication and can’t wait for her to join us full-time this spring! 🐾

Katie may be a little quiet, but she has the sweetest heart and loves her patients like they’re her own. ❤️ When she’s not at the clinic or studying, you can find her camping or enjoying a good shopping trip! 🏕️🛍️

At home, Katie is a proud dog mom to TWO black Lab sisters, Bougie & Bumble!🐕‍🦺 She adopted both girls after they served as Canine Educators at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. We love that these two girls found their forever home with Katie! 🖤

🐾💙 HAPPY VETERINARY TECHNICIAN APPRECIATION WEEK! 💙🐾

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible veterinary technicians who help keep our patients healthy, comfortable, and safe! 🩺🐶🐱

But what exactly is a vet tech, and what does it take to become a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)?

🎓 THE EDUCATION
Becoming an RVT takes dedication, hard work, and a passion for animal health! The typical path includes:
🐾 Completing an accredited veterinary technology program, usually earning a two year associate degree.
🐾 Completing hands-on clinical training.
🐾 Passing the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE).
🐾 Meeting state requirements to become registered, licensed, or certified.

🩺 WHAT DOES A VET TECH DO?
Vet techs are the nurses of veterinary medicine and play a HUGE role in your pet’s care! Their responsibilities include:
🐾 Monitoring anesthesia and patients during surgery.
🐾 Taking X-rays and running laboratory tests.
🐾 Performing dental cleanings and assisting with dental procedures.
🐾 Administering medications and providing nursing care.
🐾 Monitoring vital signs, recognizing changes in a patient’s condition, and helping manage pain.
🐾 Educating pet owners about medications, nutrition, preventative care, and at-home treatment.
🐾 Providing comfort, compassion, and a reassuring touch to patients who may be scared or hurting.

And that’s just the beginning! Vet techs wear MANY hats throughout the day, often juggling multiple responsibilities while putting their patients first. 💕

Today we’re celebrating two pretty amazing bosses! ❤️ From the big things to the little things, we’re so thankful for the leadership, dedication, and heart that Dr. Kelly and Dr. Ty bring to Kirk Vet every single day.

Being part of a team that cares so much about our patients, clients, and each other starts at the top, and we’re lucky to have you both leading the way! 🐶🐱

THIS SATURDAY (October 17th) at the Orleans Town Park! ❤️

The Surrender Sisters (Amy Toby Schwartz and Hannah McAdams) will be sharing their beautiful music with us to start the event at 7:15.
Phi Beta Psi - Theta Epsilon Chapter will be handing out FREE glow sticks.
Cathy Tucker will share her inspiring story of surviving brain cancer and will then read the names of all those being remembered on our luminaries. ❤️
James Pond, pastor at Mt. Horeb Church, will lead us in a moment of silent and a closing prayer.

We hope you can join us for 90 minutes as we remember all of our loved ones who have been touched by cancer.
