Tips to help your horses stay happy and comfortable during the hot summer days:
*Be sure horses (even when outside) always have shaded areas and water available
*Turn horses out early morning or later in the evening to avoid the heat
*Air out stables with barn safe fans or free-flowing open airways
*Consider making a mash out of your horse’s feed or forage-based supplements to encourage more water intake
*Fly gear- from blankets to masks to fly boots, can help eliminate bites, stomping and knats in your horse’s face and ears. Find the products that work for your horse
*Eliminate insect breeding grounds- clean up manure from stalls/paddocks often, remove stagnant water sources, cover up horse feeds and supplements that attract flies and keep your barn clean.
