Hey friends, Scott here—Director of Ricky’s Ranch and, as of Memorial Day weekend, the guy who learned that trees don’t negotiate.
We had just wrapped up a beautiful horse camping trip and were dropping off one of our Ricky’s Ranch horses, who is currently being fostered at a friend’s home. While turning our trailer around in their front yard, I didn’t see a low-hanging tree branch… and drove the front of our horse trailer straight into it.
The result? One very smug tree… and one totaled trailer. 😬 📸 Here’s the damage, just minutes after it happened.
The trailer was a solid steel CM Dakota, 2 horse slant load—reliable, roomy, and perfect for our senior horses. We bought it last October, $8500.00 used, needing a bit of cosmetic work, but in good condition. But the impact crumpled the front top so badly that the insurance company declared it a total loss.
State Farm is reimbursing us some after depreciation and taxes, which helps—but it’s not enough to replace the trailer. We’re now about $3,000–$4,000 short of what it’ll take to find a safe, adequate, and suitable replacement.
So we’re turning to our amazing community. If you’ve ever supported Ricky’s Ranch, shared a post, or just love what we do for these gentle old souls, we’d be incredibly grateful for your help.
🎯 Our goal: Raise $3,000–$4,000 to get a new trailer and keep our horses moving safely.
🙏 Thank you for being part of our herd! And next time I’m under a tree… I’ll be looking way up.
With gratitude (and a very crumpled trailer), Scott - Director, Ricky’s Ranch.
