Happy Sunday! Today is our second to last week of talking about all the primary colors that come with the core of the breed. Today we are showing the chestnuts! Chestnut seems to be less common in the breed but it is a core color, found in the Clydesdale, Shire and Fell pony breeds, but not the Dales. Interestingly, the color is not preferred in either Shires or Fells, but appears to be a more acceptable color for a Clydesdale.

Pictured here is a sabino/blagdon chestnut named Ziggy Stardust, owned by Linda Hancock and Marlan Merrill, and Prairie Thunder Drifter, a tobiano or skewbald chestnut. Drifter is a grandson of Crown Darby and he is owned by Nancy C.

We had a very special birthday last month! Romany's Ms. Bodi, one of the original 16 imports turned 30 years old! Bodi is one of five imported daughters of The White Horse, and is a half-sister to Bat, Shampoo Girl, Chauvani and Jasmine.

Bodi has been owned since she was 4 years old by Lynn Strauman of Gypsy Rose Ranch, where she still lives and is loved. She may be most famous as the grandmother of Peperooga's Ori, the only Gypsy Vanner to our knowledge who has reached Grand Prix level in dressage!

The only c**t produced so far by our treasured mare GG Kiss Me Mary, Big Kiss is proof that some combinations are simply magic. Big Kiss is by BPF Little Big Man, a powerhouse of iconic bloodlines, including WR Big Son of Bok, the legendary Cushti Bok—America’s very first Gypsy Vanner stallion—and the champion-producing import mare Jasmine, rated 5 stars. On the dam side, Little Big Man’s lineage goes straight back to the incomparable VV Zanna, daughter of Caymus and Vintage Vanner’s Tessa, who also produced the renowned VV King William.

Big Kiss’ dam, GG Kiss Me Mary, is herself a full sister to GG Kiss Me Kate, the winningest Vanner in breed history with 56 Supreme Champion titles.
