Today we're shining a light on one of our own - Dr. Alfredo Lichoa. 🐴

Dr. Lichoa was born in Venezuela and moved to the United States in 2001, driven by a lifelong passion for horses and the desire to build a better life for his family. That passion led him to veterinary medicine and a career spent pursuing a deep understanding of the equine world - from conception through the development of high-level competing athletes.

After more than twenty years in the field he obtained his Florida license and brought his experience and dedication to the PEVS team, where he takes on every challenge with one goal in mind - the wellness of every horse in his care.

When he's not with patients he's with his family or at the grill. 🥩

We're lucky to have you, Dr. Lichoa. 💙

Your horse’s joints will thank you later. 🙂‍↕️

Shockwave therapy uses targeted sound waves to stimulate healing in damaged tissue, increase blood flow and break down scar tissue - all without needles or surgery. Most horses feel the difference after just one session. ✨

We are so grateful for clients like these. 🐴

Reviews like these remind us exactly why we show up every day — to make sure every horse and every owner feels heard, cared for, and confident in the plan we build together.

Thank you to Kristie, Paula, and Alison for taking the time to share your experiences. We are so proud to be part of your horses' journeys.

If you've visited PEVS and would like to leave us a review, we'd truly appreciate it. 💙

The PEVS family keeps growing - please help us welcome our two newest team members!

Kelsey King joins us as a Customer Care Representative, handling new client outreach, lead follow-up, and the administrative work that keeps things moving behind the scenes.

Christen Wood is also joining us as a Customer Care Representative — she's the voice you'll hear when you call, the one checking you in and out, handling billing, answering your questions, and making sure every visit runs smoothly from start to finish.

Give them both a warm welcome — we're so happy to have them on the team. 🐴💙

Not all joint injections are the same - and the right one for your horse depends on a lot more than just which joint is hurting. 💉

From PRP and amnion-based therapies to A*M and corticosteroids, watch to see what we offer and how we decide what’s best for each horse.

This horse was referred to us with severe fungal keratitis - a deep fungal infection of the cornea with a dense stromal infiltrate and a high risk of vision loss. It's the kind of case where many owners are told there's nothing more to do.

Our team took a multimodal approach: conventional antifungal therapy to control the infection, amniotic membrane therapy to support corneal healing, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy to improve tissue oxygenation and reduce inflammation.

The result: significant scarring remains, but we preserved the globe and achieved a functional outcome that once seemed unlikely.

Every eye deserves a chance. If your horse has been diagnosed with a corneal ulcer or infection and you're not sure what your options are, give us a call — (352) 368-2277.

Horse show season brings a lot of excitement - and a lot of exposure. Equine rhinovirus is one of the most contagious respiratory infections in horses, and busy event environments are exactly where it spreads.

If your horse has recently been to a show and is running a fever, coughing, or just doesn't seem like themselves, swipe through. We put together everything you need to know - what to watch for, when to call your vet, what treatment looks like, and how to stop it from spreading through your barn.

A mare came in sore in both front feet. Her owner had tried Bute and she improved - but as soon as it was removed, the lameness came right back.

On exam: warm front feet, increased digital pulse, significant soreness. She was 19 years old, a little overweight, and had recently received a steroid injection for allergies.

Older horse. Overweight. Recent steroids. Sore in the front feet. Every sign was pointing toward a laminitis episode.

But a clinical picture alone isn't a diagnosis. The only way to confirm it is with X-rays —-and that's exactly what we did.
