PRP is one option veterinarians use to help horses with tendon and ligament injuries.

It uses platelets from the horse’s own blood. These platelets release natural signals that help the body repair damaged tissue.

But PRP alone doesn't fix an injured ligament. The location of the injury, the way the injection is placed, and the horse's recovery plan all play a role.

That's why our veterinarians use ultrasound to see exactly where they're treating and choose the approach that fits the injury.

Let's keep those big smiles healthy.

Your horse doesn't have to stop eating to have a dental problem. Horses often adapt to discomfort, which means a damaged tooth or infection can go unnoticed.

A thorough dental exam allows our veterinarians to check for loose teeth, decay, gum disease, and other problems that aren't visible from the outside.

Regular dental care can help catch problems early and preserve teeth that might otherwise need to be removed.

Dr. Colton is coming back to Ocala!

He’ll be visiting PEVS October 29–31 and seeing patients for performance evaluations, radiographs, and injections.

Yazmin is one of our seasoned veterinary technicians. Since earning her veterinary technician degree in 2022, she has become a key member of the PEVS team.

Vet techs have one of the most interesting jobs in equine medicine. They're hands-on with the horses, work alongside veterinarians on complex cases, and experience a side of veterinary medicine most people never see.

What makes Yazmin even better at what she does is her genuine love for horses. She enjoys the work, cares about the animals, and brings that passion to our team every day.

One of the challenges performance horses face is developing bone chips in their joints, especially during high-speed activities like racing and jumping.

These fragments can cause inflammation, pain, and reduced performance.

With arthroscopic surgery, veterinarians can remove the fragments through small incisions while examining the joint for additional damage.

The goal is to preserve joint health and give the horse the best chance of returning to competition.

Not all tendon injuries are the same, and the location of the damage can change the treatment approach.

In this mare’s case, ultrasound revealed a significant lesion in the deep digital flexor tendon. Using ultrasound guidance, PRP can be delivered directly into the injured area, allowing for precise treatment.

In barrel racing, the hocks and stifles take a beating, especially through tight turns and powerful acceleration.

Joint inflammation doesn’t always come with visible tissue damage. The challenge is identifying which findings are affecting performance and deciding where treatment is needed.
