Please call 📞 our office if your horse needs vaccinations, we’re also happy to check the status of your last given vaccines as well!

The first day of spring is less than a month away! 🌸
Which means…it's time to schedule your equine companion to receive their spring vaccinations!

If you are wondering what vaccinations your equine friend should receive, the answer is — There are no “one size fits all” vaccine recommendations. A veterinarian who knows your animal and your management system is your best resource to recommend what vaccines your equine should receive and with what frequency!

While vaccination does not prevent disease in all circumstances, a good immunization protocol minimizes the risk of infection and remains an essential component of responsible ownership. A vaccination appointment is also the perfect opportunity for a yearly check-up of your equine friend and a great way to catch any health concerns early.

If you have yet to contact your veterinarian about scheduling vaccinations, we encourage you to do it soon!

Congratulations to our Surgical Tech Becca on such an achievement!

❄️ 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬 ❄️

With the current cold front moving through Florida, it’s important to take a few extra steps to keep your horse comfortable and healthy. Even though our winters are mild compared to other regions, sudden temperature drops can still impact your horse.

🐴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲
Hay is your horse’s internal heater! Increased forage intake helps horses generate body heat through digestion, so make sure they have consistent access to good-quality hay.

💧 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵, 𝘂𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗼𝘇𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿
Cold weather can reduce a horse’s desire to drink. Check water sources frequently and encourage hydration to help prevent impaction colic.

🧥 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴—𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘆
Most healthy horses with a winter coat do well without a blanket, but older horses, clipped horses, thin horses, or those with medical conditions may benefit. Make sure blankets fit properly and are removed periodically to check skin and body condition.

🌬️ 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻
Wind chill and damp conditions can make horses feel much colder. Access to a run-in shed or natural windbreak goes a long way in keeping them comfortable.

🩺 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘆
Watch for signs of discomfort such as shivering, lethargy, or reduced appetite. Changes in routine or weather are a good time to keep an extra eye on your horse’s health.

If you have questions about cold weather management or concerns about your horse during this temperature shift, our team at 𝘖𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘢 𝘌𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 is always here to help. Stay warm out there! 💙🐎

This past Saturday, the staff at OEH enjoyed time together reflecting on the year and celebrating the camaraderie and dedication each team member brings to our hospital every day.

Instead of a traditional Christmas party, a thoughtful plan led the team to a Tampa Bay Lightning Hockey game — what a fun and memorable way to wrap up the year! 🏒✨

Great food, great drinks, and even better company made for an unforgettable evening. While not many photos were taken, here are a few moments to share and enjoy.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of our amazing clients! We’re excited to make 2026 even better together! 🎄🎉

We agree with The University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, with an unlikely connection to the mass affected industry in the western states.

Please continue to use caution when around unknown horses and keep your own horse’s vaccines up to date. Avoid communal feed and water stations along with shared grooming supplies.

If your horse is showing any respiratory or neurological signs, call us before they progress for an exam!
