They have all shapes and sizes of lovable mutts and purebreds, fluffy cats, shaggy dogs, playful puppies and cuddly kittens. Your chances of finding a wonderful companion who matches your lifestyle, family, and home are excellen

t! Many people think a “second-hand” pet means second-rate. On the contrary, many shelter animals seem to sense what they were up against and become among the most devoted and grateful companions. Often animals end up in shelters because of circumstances beyond their control. They’re victims of a death, illness, divorce, or a move that didn’t include them. For others being homeless is all they have ever known. The simple fact is that there are many more animals needing adoption than there are homes. So when you adopt from a shelter, you become part of the solution to the overpopulation crisis. You give a deserving animal a new home and a second chance at life.

“Adoptable Animals at the Oak Ridge Shelter” is operated by a small group of very dedicated volunteers. We work closely with the shelter staff to provide comfort and care to the animals as they patiently wait for a forever home. It is our greatest desire to help place as many of the shelter animals as possible in loving homes, but often the amount of homeless animals exceed the amount of adoptions. Because we believe every adoptable animal deserves a second chance, we work to promote fostering, encourage sponsorship and placement of shelter animals with appropriate rescues. We are passionate about helping the homeless animals in our shelter find a better life. Please join us in our efforts by following and sharing our page. Oak Ridge Animal Shelter Information

✨ Pet Spotlight: Toby ✨

Toby is a Bullmastiff mix whose heart might just be bigger than he is! 🐾

At 3 years old and 72 pounds, Toby is a calm, easy-going gentleman who loves the simple things in life—taking walks, going for car rides, enjoying pup cups, and soaking up all the attention he can get. He's a total love bug who enjoys snuggling up with his people.

Toby is house-trained and walks nicely on a leash, making him an easy companion to have by your side. He’s looking for a home without small children and can be selective with men and other dogs, so meet-and-greets are required to ensure a good match. 💛

His adoption fee includes neuter, vaccines, microchip, and more! Come meet Toby and see if this sweet boy is the missing piece of your family. 🐶

🐶 What “Dog Selective” Means 🐶

Not all dogs love every dog they meet—and that’s completely normal. A dog-selective pup simply has preferences about the dogs they spend time with, just like people do. Some enjoy calm companions, some prefer certain sizes or play styles, and some are happiest being your one-and-only.

Understanding this helps us make thoughtful, successful matches, which is why we require a meet-and-greet with your current dog. With the right match, dog-selective pups blossom into loving, loyal companions who bring so much joy to their homes. 💙✨

👑 Meet Dorthea 👑

Are you tired of needy cats who constantly want attention, affection, and validation?
Well, Dorthea has great news for you: she doesn't - at least not yet.

Dorthea is looking for a home where she can comfortably sit across the room, under the bed, or in a good hidey spot while silently judging your life choices. Did you buy another Amazon package? Tsk Tsk. Ate shredded cheese straight from the bag at 11 PM? She's taking notes.

Now, to be fair, Dorthea is mostly just shy, unsure, and very selective with her trust. She may allow a few slow pets if you come bearing the proper offering (treats). Think of it less as petting a cat and more as gently negotiating a peace treaty with a tiny, cautious monarch.

Shelter life has been overwhelming for her and she's still figuring humans out. Either she's scared, or she's decided she's above us all. The jury is still out. She may enjoy having a friendly feline roommate—someone who can show her the ropes and demonstrate that the household staff (that's you) is actually pretty decent.

The good news? Underneath that skeptical exterior may be a future best friend. One day, with enough patience, love, and possibly a steady supply of snacks, Dorthea may decide you're worthy of her trust. She might even eventually come sit near you. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. You're going to have to impress her first.

If you’ve ever wanted a cat with firm boundaries and the vibe of “you may apply for affection, but approval is not guaranteed,” Dorthea is accepting applications . 👑🐱

🐾 Please don’t forget our long-term residents. 🐾

Quiche, Amelia, Petra, and Seraph have each been waiting over a year—watching other dogs go home while they’re still hoping for their turn.

Some may need to be the only pet, or be in a quiet home without children. Some are simply shy or overwhelmed by shelter life. But given time, patience, and love, they blossom into devoted companions who form deep, lasting bonds with their people. ❤️

Could you be the one they’ve been waiting for? 🐾❤️

🐾 Happy Tails: Buford (now Winston Buford Peacock III)! 🐾

Buford came to the shelter as a 3-month-old kitten in December of last year, and this adorable little guy got the best Christmas gift of all—a loving forever home! ❤️

His new mom tells it best:

"Winston Buford Peacock III has brought a ton of laughter and joy to our family. What started as a quick trip to donate cat toys, ended in an application and Christmas Eve adoption for our little buddy! Winners (nickname) enjoys playing and cuddling. He loves to pilfer “people food.” His new favorite snack to steal is popcorn 🫣. He can be a little mischievous but struggles to be stealthy, so he usually gets caught. Winston is known to be a good source of love and laughter in our family and has fit right in since day 1. We can’t imagine a world without our Christmas Eve kitty!!"

😻 We absolutely love this! We think Winners is the perfect nickname for this lucky kitty, and it’s clear he’s living the good life. ❤️

Thank you to his family for adopting and for sharing this wonderful update with us! 💕🐾
