Should you be concerned if you see a baby bunny all alone? Generally speaking, no. Baby rabbits only live in the nest for 3 weeks before becoming independent (even if they are still quite small)!

If you discover a nest of baby rabbits, please do not remove them. Their mother is likely nearby and will return at dawn and dusk to feed them.

Worried the nest is abandoned? Try placing a few twigs in a pattern on top of the nest and leave. Check after 24 hours; if the twigs have been disturbed, then mother has been back to check on her babies! In the meantime, make sure no dogs or neighborhood cats disturb the nest.

If you discover injured or truly abandoned baby rabbits in your yard, contact HSHV’s rescue team at 734-661-3512.

***Community member in need!***

We have someone, and their two bonded cats Marcy and Cube, who need housing for May and June. They are able to pay up to $1k (ideally less) per month.

If they cannot find cat friendly housing they are also searching for a temp foster for the cats for those two months until they move into their permanent housing.

Can you help? Know of a place to stay for that time or can you temp foster? Email [email protected] with any offers or questions!

Almost three months after being dropped off at spcaLA for safe housing after the Eaton Fire, Ermias' family came to retrieve him and take him home! We are very happy we were able to take care of Ermias while his family found a new place to live (that would accept dogs!). Best of luck!!

Salvatore doesn't understand why he’s still with us!

This incredible man is 11 years old and was brought in by Cook County Animal Control when his previous owner could no longer care for him. He lived with two German Shepherds, but we think he was the one in charge 😉

He would love to come help you with your work, or more likely micro manage your entire life. He spent the morning in our Director's office where he dumped the trash (several times), opened a printer box and tried to climb in, and climbed on her computer keyboard. She finally succumbed to his charms and just held him - which is all he really wants.

If you're looking for a new best friend who will entertain you with his silly antics and mostly crawl in your lap, come meet our Sal! ❤️❤️❤️

Happy World Hamster Day! We haven’t transported any yet, but we are willing! ❤️ The most common hamsters in the US are Syrian Hamsters - they’re also called Teddy Bear and Golden hamsters. They are friendly and great pets.

After sharing Finnley’s story last week, we wanted to share some more information about heartworm and animals. This data is a couple of years old, but shows that heartworm testing and prevention is important for ALL pets.🐾

Vet cats are the best!

It's been a morning. I had to take down a South American Royal Blue Snake as it was slithering down the wall. This is an extremely rare and venomous species. I am lucky to be alive!! These employees of mine would not have lasted this long if it weren't for my close observation of our surroundings.
