So the time has come. Tomorrow will be our final day to see patients, and the schedule is full. We can refill some medications- call ahead to make sure we have what you need. We still have lots of toys and some food left as well. Most medications and prescription food can be filled through Chewy.com and I can authorize after we close. The hospital cats are all going (or have gone) to their forever homes and Frankie is meeting his new mom tomorrow! Sharing pictures of the cats we’ve shared space with over the past few years.
Here's the email many have received.
Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts, your concerns for me and especially for the staff who have been dealing with this as well as the fallout. We all appreciate how much you care and the support you have consistently offered us, as well as your patience while we try to wrap up and organize over these last several weeks. We have found the cards sharing memories and kind thoughts very touching, and the gifts have been very much loved as well.
Just to allay some of your concerns, I am trying to take some time off to recover from a chronic wound, but do not have anything life threatening. While this was not the sole reason for the decision to close, medical concerns did play a role.
As for the future, after I let some of my local colleagues know that The Cat Practice was closing, Dr. Cidon from PetVets (on Harrison in Oak Park) reached out. After much discussion and thought, I have accepted a position as an associate there with the agreement that I will only see cats (for the benefit of both dogs and myself). We share many similar philosophies about cats and the practice of veterinary medicine and they already have exam rooms only for cats, so they know that cats do better when they have some space away from the sound and smell of dogs (as do cat vets). I look forward to seeing many of you in the future with your cats. My anticipated start date is June 16th. I will be available through email and the clinic cell phone until then, and I will continue to check Chewy and Covetrus to allow prescriptions for food and medication to be filled.
Your support throughout the years and most recently has been overwhelming and I am so grateful that I have had the pleasure of caring for your cats and for you these past 18 (plus) years.
Sincerely,
Dr. Lori
