We also now have a Class IV Companion Therapy Laser and are able to schedule laser sessions. Our owner is Dr. Amberle Wright, a 2010 graduate of the University of Missouri. She is the daughter of Dr. Bill Wright, a 1975 graduate of the University of Missouri and an associate veterinarian at the clinic. Also on staff is Dr. Anne Clapper, a 2008 graduate of the University of Missouri. We are members of the American Veterinary Medical Association,
the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association, Greater St. Louis Veterinary Medical Association, Veterinary Information Network and the O'Fallon Chamber of Commerce. Fall weather is here and we’d like to remind everyone that while it may be cold outside, it is still important to provide flea and tick prevention for your pets! Most people assume that the threat of fleas and ticks lessens during the cold weather, but surprisingly both parasites can survive in mildly cool weather and are even more motivated to move into your home during these harsher months. Since a single flea can lay lots of eggs, it doesn’t take long for that single flea to become a full blown infestation.

One of the questions we’re asked most often is, “What products do we recommend?” While some over-the-counter products may provide limited protection against fleas and ticks, they are typically not as effective nor do they provide the same consistency of coverage that prescription strength products do. For instance, lots of products available may kill adult fleas, but when battling a flea infestation, it is important to kill fleas at all life cycles. Since adult fleas, larvae, pupa, and eggs all develop at different rates, treating “effectively” means treating “consistently,” typically over 3-4 months so that each life cycle is targeted.

For our patients needing flea and tick coverage, we have a variety of products that we recommend, both in clinic and through our online pharmacy (including Simparica, Simparica Trio, and Nexgard Combo). DYK that dental disease affects over 70% of cats by age three? During a physical exam, the veterinarian may note plaque buildup, bad breath, and gum inflammation.

What can you do at home? Start with good oral hygeine from a young age! The best prevention is daily brushing. Making it part of a daily routine starting as a kitten will give the best results. Cat won't tolerate brushing? There are also numerous dental treats and even a dental diet!

If your cat has already developed dental disease, our veterinarians are happy to chat about personalized treatment plans. That will usually involve cleaning and examining the teeth under anesthesia.
