The pose of triumph! Dr. Pavia was successful in removing a toy that was stuck in a dog's jaw πŸ₯³
When picking chew toys for your pup, keep in mind these 4 key factors from the American Animal Hospital Association: chew style, size, hardness, and safety. First, identify if your dog is a passive, moderate, or aggressive chewer to match toy durability. Second, make sure the toy fits their size. It should be larger than snout length and mouth width, but an aggressive chewer may need one size up. Third, test hardness to protect teeth! A toy is too hard if your thumbnail leaves no mark or it lacks flex. Finally, keep it extra safe by selecting highly durable materials that resist tearing and avoid flavored coatings. We also encourage pet owners to keep an eye on their pets while they play with chew toys, especially when introducing new ones 🦴

Common-myth: busted! Parasites, like fleas and ticks, can be carried inside on clothing, and mosquitoes can sneak their way in through open doors and windows, putting even your indoor pets at risk. Year-round, consistent parasite prevention is a huge part of responsible pet care!

Meet Charlie, an 8 year old Brittany Spaniel who came to see us after his family noticed he'd started limping on his front right leg. When things didn't improve with pain medication, x-rays showed an abnormal area of dense, calcified tissue near his elbow. The next step was a biopsy, and it confirmed one of our concerns: osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer that can be both aggressive and very painful.
After discussing Charlie's diagnosis and the available options with his family, they made the difficult but loving decision to move forward with amputation. Our goal was simple: relieve pain, help him feel like himself again, and give him the opportunity to enjoy more quality time with those he loves.
Surgery was a success and we could not be more proud of him! He was an absolute all-star patient throughout his time with us. Plus, thanks to the incredible care of his family, he continued to do wonderfully during his recovery at home. When Charlie returned to have his sutures removed, we were thrilled to see him adjusting beautifully to life on three legs. And loved to hear he's gotten back to playing with his big sister, Maddy!
Charlie's journey is a wonderful reminder of just how resilient our pets can be and how much of a difference keeping them comfortable and pain-free can make in their quality of life. A very special thank you to Charlie's family for trusting us with his care through such a difficult time. It's a privilege to care for this sweet boy and be part of his journey πŸ’™

This testimonial is a longer one, but absolutely worth the read, as it's 100% why we do what we do. Not only genuine concern for the pets we take care of, but for the people who love them, too. Julia, we're so sorry for your loss of Teddy. It was our team's privilege to care for him during his time with us πŸ’™
