After being away for a work trip, I am pleased to be eagerly greeted by TJ and the cat crew. Many thanks to Lilly, Emma, and my mother for providing top-notch care to our long-term care cats and TJ during my temporary absence.

Thinking About Surrendering Your Pet? Please Read This First.

Our shelter—and many like ours—is full. Every kennel, every foster home, every inch of space is spoken for. When you surrender your pet to a shelter, even with the best intentions, they face an uncertain future in a stressful environment.

💔 Shelters can be overwhelming for pets who once knew the comfort of home.
⏳ Space and time are limited. We wish it weren’t true—but it is.
🐶 Your pet will always have a better chance if YOU help find their next family.

If you can’t keep your pet, consider rehoming instead:
✅ Ask friends and family first.
✅ Post on social media or local pet rehoming groups.
✅ Use reputable websites like Rehome.adoptapet.com or Home-to-Home.org.
✅ Be honest about your pet’s needs so their next home is the right fit.

You are your pet’s best advocate. Please help them find their next chapter without putting them in the shelter system.

Today is National Kitten Day, celebrated annually on July 10th. It's a day to appreciate the cuteness and joy that kittens bring, and also to raise awareness about the importance of kitten adoption and responsible pet ownership.

Our local shelter is full with kittens and cats that need loving forever homes. If you are considering adding to your family, please visit the shelter.

Our rescue kittens, Pei and Wei, from the pipe are about ready for spay/neiter. We are happy to announce thror foster parents have decided to adopt them.

Fireworks are fun for humans. But for pets, wildlife, and livestock? Not so much.

As we celebrate the 4th of July tomorrow, let’s keep it festive and thoughtful:

Keep it to the 4th. One night is enough. Prolonged fireworks mean prolonged fear for animals and humans, too.

Keep it short. Fireworks release harmful chemicals, so less time = less pollution.

Clean up. Firework debris means plastic, paper, and chemical trash in our parks, yards, and waterways.

Stay fire safe. Dry grass and stray sparks can lead to disaster for homes and wildlife habitats.

Consider alternatives. Light shows, music, or sparklers can be just as fun and much less scary.

More pet dogs go missing on July 4th than any other day of the year. Birds abandon nests. Wildlife panics.

You can still celebrate, just be kind to our four-legged, feathered, and human neighbors. Let’s make the 4th of July a blast for everyone!
