Three years ago, Oden walked out of our shelter with a family of his own.

We imagined he'd never need us again.

For three years, he knew what it meant to belong. He had a home, people who loved him, a routine, a favorite place to nap, and the comfort of ending every day with the same family.

Then life changed.

Not because Oden did anything wrong. He didn't.

Sometimes life throws things at families that no one sees coming. Through a combination of difficult domestic circumstances and severe allergies within the home, one of the hardest decisions a family can make had to be made.

So today... Oden is back.

When his family told us about him, they didn't tell us about a problem dog. They told us about their dog.

The one who greets you at the door.

The one you trust to free roam the house because he's never given you a reason not to.

The one who's housebroken, gentle with children, gets along with other dogs, and simply wants to be wherever his people are.

The one who loves with his whole heart.

Imagine spending three years believing you've found your forever home... only to suddenly find yourself sleeping in a kennel again.

We can't explain to Oden why everything changed.

But we can promise him we're going to do everything we can to help him find a family that will love him just as deeply as this one did.

Maybe that's you.

Some mornings change you forever. This was one of them.
Just under two weeks ago, eight tiny kittens were transferred into our care. At the time, no one knew they were carrying one of the most devastating cases of feline calicivirus our veterinary team has ever encountered.
What followed has been 13 days of heartbreak and worry.
We've watched fevers climb as high as 107.8°F. Tiny mouths become so ulcerated they couldn't eat. Little bodies that needed constant medications, fluids, syringe feedings, oxygen support, cleaning, and around the clock care just to have a chance. Every hour became a race against a virus that showed no mercy.
Our team has lived in ICU mode ever since.
The thing is... our team is small.
There isn't a separate overnight ICU staff. There isn't a team of specialists waiting to take over. It's the same people who care for every shelter animal, see every clinic patient, answer the phones, help adopters, clean kennels, perform surgeries, and then somehow find the time and energy to fight for these kittens, too.
We've come in early. Stayed late. Skipped breaks. Checked on them before bed. Worried about them all night. The work never stopped. Neither did the hope.
But this morning, despite every ounce of care, every sleepless night, and every prayer... we walked into our ICU and found one of our babies had lost the fight.
There are moments in animal welfare that no amount of experience prepares you for.
We grieve every life we lose because every one of them matters.
Animal welfare isn't just puppies going home and happy adoption photos. Sometimes it's sitting on the floor of an ICU holding a kitten that's burning up with a fever, praying the medications start working. Sometimes it's walking through the doors in the morning wondering what you're going to find.
The work never stops. The heartbreak doesn't either. But neither does our commitment.
The seven babies still with us are still fighting, and so are we.
Cases like this stretch every resource we have. The medications, diagnostics, fluids, prescription food, protective equipment, and countless hours of intensive nursing care add up quickly. We don't stop because it's expensive or exhausting, we keep going because they deserve every chance.

Your donations don't just buy supplies. They give us the ability to fight when the odds are stacked against us. They allow us to say "yes" when critically ill animals need somewhere to go. They give these tiny lives a chance they otherwise wouldn't have.

This is one of them.

Meet Ranger, a 6 year old German Shepherd whose life had quietly become a story of endurance.

About a year ago, Ranger's family took over his care from someone else. They loved him and wanted to help, but his medical needs quickly became far greater than they could manage financially. Hoping to finally get him the help he deserved, they brought him to our low-cost veterinary clinic, where they could receive quality care at a price they could better afford.

Nothing could have prepared our team for what walked through our doors.

Ranger's body was covered in severe skin infections, open wounds, and thickened, painful skin. His ears were consumed by infection. His nails had grown so long they were affecting the way he walked. Every inch of his body showed that he had been living with chronic pain for far too long.

Our team sat down with his family and had a compassionate conversation about his condition. We discussed every option available, including surrender, so that extensive medical care could be provided if needed. Ultimately, his family wanted to continue caring for him and asked us to do everything we could to help.

They approved treatment, and the very next morning our medical team got to work.

For 4½ hours, our veterinarians and technicians never stopped. Under sedation, they carefully treated infection after infection, cleaned countless wounds, clipped years of overgrown nails, addressed painful ears, and gave Ranger the relief he had likely not felt in a very long time.

When he finally woke up, he looked like a different dog.

More importantly...
He looked comfortable.

He looked like he could finally begin to heal.
As is often the case in veterinary medicine, even with low-cost services, extensive medical care can still become overwhelming. Ranger's family contributed what they were able, but the cost of providing this level of treatment far exceeded what they could afford.

That's where your support changes lives.

It allows us to say "yes" when an animal is suffering. It allows our doctors and veterinary team to spend hours giving a dog relief instead of turning him away because of cost.

A lot of these babies haven't had the easiest start in life. Some have had medical concerns, some were born alone outside, some have lost their families. Now they'll all get a fresh start & a warm bed, thanks to all of these amazing faces. 💙🥳
