Happy National Pitbull Awareness Day from our adorable dog, Blaze 🐾 🎃

National Pit Bull Awareness Day is celebrated on October 28th every year. The day's purpose is to educate the public about pit bulls, change negative perceptions, and promote positive experiences for pit bulls and their owners.

Bless the Bullys, a Tennessee-based pit bull rescue and education group, founded NPBAD in 2007. The day is part of the National Pit Bull Awareness Campaign, which aims to change people's opinions about pit bulls every day. Obviously the entire month is Pit Bull Awareness Month, but we get a day to focus on the breed solely as well 👏

▪️Pit bulls are often the most common dog in animal shelters.

▪️Dogs labeled as pit bulls spend three times longer in shelters than other dogs.

Make a difference by advocating for the breed, volunteering at your local shelter, spreading awareness, & even adopting a pit of your own ❤️

Happy Monday from one of our personal dogs, Bombshell 💣 She is a purebred American Bully! Bombshell is helping us raise awareness for her breed and breeds like her that get categorized into one!!! October is pitbull awareness month and we are here to help debunk the myths and spread pawesome facts about this amazing breed!
Here’s a fun fact ✅:
1) Pit Bull is not even an actual breed! It’s actually an umbrella term! ☂ 🌂
Some examples are the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The American Bulldog is also sometimes included. Plenty of terriers and mixes get in the category as well! The only breed with the word “pit” is the American Pit Bull Terrier 🐕
Here is a myth ❎:
2) Pitbull-type dogs have a negative temperament‼️ According to the latest ATTS breed temperament test data, the breeds that are commonly classified as the modern pitbull-type breeds continue to achieve excellent temperament scores - scoring in the top 23% of all breeds and higher than 100 of the 130 breeds tested. 🤗📊

Here’s a fun fact ✅:
1) Pit Bulls were mascots in early 20th Century America, appearing often on Army recruitment posters and other advertisements. 🇺🇸 🐕
The most decorated dog of World War I was a Pit Bull named Sergeant Stubby. In between his 17 battles on the Western Front, the legendary pooch helped comfort wounded soldiers.
Here is a myth ❎:
2) Pit bulls have the strongest bite out of breeds‼️
This is not true whatsoever. Contrary to everything you’ve read, Pit Bulls don’t bite especially hard. In a test of the bite force of three breeds conducted by National Geographic in 2008, Pit Bulls came in last – behind German Shepherds and Rottweilers. 🐶

Here’s a fun fact ✅:
1) American Pit Bull Terriers were used as herding dogs 🐄
After the British settled in America, soon their pit bull terriers followed which became the APBT. They were responsible for herding cattle, herding bulls, guarding livestock, and families against thieves and wild animals. Also helping on the hunts and as hog catchers!
Here is a myth ❎:
2) There is no such thing as a lock jaw ‼️
Contrary to popular myth, pit bulls do not have "locking jaws". There is no physiological "locking mechanism" in the jaw muscle and bone structure of pit bulls OR other dogs. 🐕
