This chunky boy is Alfie ♡ He's one of my newer clients who is currently in a foster home and is available for adoption through Arpo. Alfie is very social with both people and doggos. He's currently learning some basic skills so that he is on top of his game when he meets his forever family. Alfie is a little overweight, so he's on both a weight loss and training journey that will hopefully bring him to the perfect home for him. Also, isn't baby Alfie just the cutest? He's been waiting his whole life to meet his forever family 🥹 For more information, and if you're interested in Alfie, visit the link below.

Congratulations to my sweet goofy boy Simba for graduating over the weekend ♡ Simba was enrolled in our basic obedience course and his brother Pogo is still currently enrolled in our behavior modification course. Simba learned so much during his time in training and never failed to put a smile on my face. His number one skill now is recalling to his name. I'm so proud of you and your parents Simmy!

Did you know mental stimulation is way more exhausting for dogs than physical?
So maybe instead of going on a 15 mile hike with your dog, opt for a 20 minute walk and 15 minutes of training. You'll enhance your relationship with your dog and they'll sleep a lot sounder at night.

Watch us work on settling in a high distraction environment with the "place" cue!
Luna is a 2 year old Bernedoodle mix who was very reactive to practically anything that moved. She has some issues with her vision, so sometimes even things like bushes and trees would frighten her. She was always nervous and scared whenever she was outside on walks with her dad, and without a backyard of her own, it made potty breaks and walks very daunting for her dad. Her dad and I have worked very diligently on her training so we could desensitize her to sounds and sights and link them to more positive experiences. She is now capable of doing things like down-stays in busy areas where people and dogs walk by and go on walks to the local park with her dad. Luna values play a lot, so we use her ball as a way to reward her and encourage happier body language when she's outside.
I'm so proud of Luna and all her hard work. Stay tuned for more videos of Luna and other students making big strides in their journeys toward confidence ♡

Maxi, the Belgian Malinois, has made BIG strides in his reactivity towards people and doggos.

In this video, you can see Maxi performing lots of "check-ins." "Check-ins" are where Maxi acknowledges his trigger and the looks back at his handler. We've worked very hard to prove to Max that this is a rewarding behavior to offer, so he is conditioned into performing these without being cued to do so. This helps to disrupt the pattern of fixation.

Dogs who exhibit reactive and aggressive behaviors have a clear goal in mind, it's never without reason. We've taught Maxi all of his basic cues and improved his parents' handling skills so we can put him in these "controlled set-ups" to offer him opportunities to practice different behaviors and build new associations. We would place Maxi at a distance away from his triggers, where he could still perform and gradually worked him up to being able to be closer to them. With the hard work and dedication of his parents, he is now able to coexist around his triggers and even make new friends.
