🐦 Important Update About Parakeet Surrenders 🐦

The need for parakeet rescue continues to grow.

So far this year, J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue has taken in more than 100 parakeets. Thanks to our amazing supporters, many have found new homes, but our rescue center has reached capacity for these little birds.

Because of this, we are no longer accepting routine parakeet surrenders at our Neenah Rescue Center.

We will continue to consider emergency situations on a case-by-case basis, and we will still accept parakeets at our award-winning Exotic Pet Surrender Events held throughout Wisconsin.

If you have a parakeet you can no longer care for, we encourage you to first contact:

🐍💚 Cora the Ball Python 💚🐍



Cora came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on 5/9/26 during the Exotic Pet Surrender Event in Kewaunee after their owner, who originally got them from an expo, could no longer care for them. Now Cora is looking for a forever home where they can enjoy a safe, stable life.

At about 2 years old, Cora is still a young Ball Python with many years ahead. They are eating small frozen/thawed rats consistently and are doing well in our care. Ball Pythons are known for their calm personalities and are one of the most popular pet snakes because they are generally gentle and easy to handle.


🟢 Quick Care Tips:
• Adult size: 3–5 feet
• Lifespan: 30+ years
• Enclosure: At least a 4' x 2' x 2' enclosure
• Warm side: 86–90°F
• Cool side: 72–80°F
• Humidity: 45–75%
• Diet: Frozen/thawed rodents every 10–14 days


With proper heat, humidity, and secure hiding places, Ball Pythons can thrive for decades. If you're ready for a long-term reptile companion, Cora may be the perfect match for your family. 💚

There’s been a video circulating from Cindy at Small Scale Rescue about J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue that makes a number of claims about our organization. We want to take a moment to set the record straight.

Here are the facts:

❌ We never said we have “too many animals.”

❌ We never said other rescues are “slacking” or “doing nothing.”

❌ We never said we can’t take any more animals.

What we did say is exactly what we’ve been saying from the beginning:

✅ We have temporarily paused routine, everyday intakes of four species—Bearded Dragons, Ball Pythons, Leopard Geckos, and Parakeets.

✅ We are still accepting emergency cases involving those species.

✅ We are still accepting those species at our award-winning Exotic Pet Surrender Events, because those events are a critical part of preventing abandoned and released exotic pets.

✅ We believe that rescues need to work together instead of working against eachother.

Our message has been consistent from day one. We’re making a responsible, temporary decision to ensure the animals already in our care continue to receive the high-quality care they deserve while still maintaining our commitment to emergency cases and surrender events.

Before believing what you hear online, ask yourself:

• Where is the proof that we said these things?
• Does the video include our actual statements?
• Why weren’t these questions brought directly to us?

We welcome questions. We welcome respectful disagreement. That’s why our comments remain open.

For over six years, our mission has been to provide responsible surrender options, educate the public, and help exotic animals in need. Since 2020, we’ve helped more than 13,000 animals find homes, and we’ll continue doing everything we can to serve Wisconsin’s exotic pet community with honesty and transparency.
