🐾 28 lives. One foster home. One year.

Since June 2025, Napa Humane Executive Director Wendi Piscia has opened her home to 28 foster animals through Napa County Animal Shelter.

Tiny kittens. Shy kittens. Playful puppies. A feral mama cat and her babies. Over the course of a year, her family has welcomed animals of all ages, personalities, and backgrounds, each one given the time and space they needed to prepare for their next chapter.

Foster homes play a critical role in animal welfare. They provide a safe, temporary place for animals to grow, gain confidence, and get ready for adoption while helping shelters make room for the animals still waiting for help.

Right now, Napa County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center is operating at or near capacity and relies heavily on foster homes and rescue partners to help create lifesaving space for animals in need.

Not every pet care visit requires a veterinary exam.

Napa Humane offers technician appointments on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., making it easier to access routine preventive care for your pet.

For a $25 appointment fee, our technicians can provide ala carte services such as:

✔ Nail trims — $20
✔ A**l gland expressions — $20
✔ Microchips — $12
✔ Vaccines — $9–$25, depending on vaccine

Please note: The $25 appointment fee reserves your appointment time and is separate from the cost of services provided.

🌈🐾 What a wonderful day!

We had so much fun celebrating with everyone at last Saturday’s Pride Pet Parade & Pawty. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, said hello, and helped make the event such a joyful celebration of pets, people, and community.

The Power of Prevention can start with something as simple as dinner.

This Thursday, June 18, Napa Yard - Oxbow Gardens is hosting a Dine & Donate benefiting Napa Humane's Power of Prevention.

Bring your friends, family, and pups for a casual evening out while supporting programs that help keep pets healthy and in loving homes throughout Napa County.

🐶 Dogs can enjoy a special menu featuring:

• Chicken & Rice — $6
• Puppy Patty — $6

🍹 Humans can sip featured specialty drinks:

🐾 Prevention doesn't stop at Napa Humane's doors.

One day each week, our lead veterinarian Dr. Stone provides veterinary care at the Napa County Animal Shelter as part of Napa Humane's Shelter Medicine partnership.

By bringing care directly to the shelter, animals can receive medical attention sooner, reducing the need for transportation between facilities and allowing shelter staff to focus on caring for the animals in their charge.

Most importantly, timely medical care helps pets move toward adoption more quickly, because every day an animal spends waiting is another day they're waiting for a family.

At Napa Humane, we believe prevention is about more than the services we provide within our own walls. It's about working together with community partners to improve animal welfare and create better outcomes for pets across Napa County.

When organizations work together, pets receive care sooner and have the opportunity to find loving homes sooner. That's the Power of Prevention.🧡🐾

Sometimes the best part of the day isn't checking another surgery off the schedule.

Sometimes it's a tiny patient in a bright pink surgery suit who decides your arms are the safest place in the world. 🩷🐾

Moments like these remind us why we're so passionate about prevention and compassionate care. We're grateful to spend our days helping pets—and yes, enjoying the occasional cuddle break.

🧡 P.S. With today's warm weather, we'll be gathering on River Terrace Inn's shaded riverfront patio with water bowls and cooling pools available for our canine guests. That said, every dog handles the heat differently. If your pup is elderly, has medical conditions, is a short-snouted breed, or simply doesn't do well in warm weather, we'd encourage them to enjoy a cozy evening at home while you stop by and say hello. Their safety and comfort always come first.

🏅 Good manners deserve recognition.

The AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title is a nationally recognized certification that celebrates dogs with a strong foundation of manners, training, and real-world skills. It's an accomplishment that reflects the teamwork and trust built between dogs and their people.

Napa Humane is excited to host a Canine Good Citizen Testing Day on Sunday, June 21, with visiting evaluator Lea Orloski, CPDT-KA of Canine Centric, who has more than 10 years of experience conducting CGC evaluations and earning titles with her own dogs.

Only 9 evaluation spots are available!

While many participants will be graduates of Napa Humane's training program, the test is open to any dog whose family feels they are ready to demonstrate the required skills. If you've been training elsewhere or on your own, we'd love to see you!

And here's something we always tell our training clients: Taking the CGC test is an accomplishment in itself. If your dog doesn't pass on the first attempt, that's okay—it simply helps identify areas to continue practicing, and you can always test again.

We're proud to help dogs and their families build the skills and confidence that lead to this milestone and look forward to cheering on the next group of Canine Good Citizens! 🧡
