🎉 Pawsitive Pawtner Spotlight!🎉

Thank you to the local Credit Union members of the MOON Chapter for their July Pet Food drive for our Big Lake Pet Food Pantry!

Service 1 Federal Credit Union

Not only did they bring food, they raised money by offering prizes for donations, and one sold bandanas!
With a matching $500 from the chapter, these great community partners raised $1,764.34 for our pantry!

🐾 BIG LAKE PET FOOD PANTRY – EVERY THURSDAY! 🐾

Need a little help keeping your furry friends fed? We've got you covered! 🐶🐱
Every Thursday from 12 PM - 5 PM, we offer walk-in pet food pick-up at Big Lake Humane Society (2640 Marquette Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442).

This program has been one of our most impactful shelter abatement efforts—helping families stay together and pets stay out of shelters.

In 2024 alone, we distributed nearly 37,000 pounds of pet food! 🎉

👉 What you need to know:
✔️ Supplemental support—We’re here to help, but we can’t be your full-time pet food provider.
✔️ Limit: 2 visits per month per household.
✔️ Proof of income is required to qualify.
✔️ No support for breeders or colony cat feeders (our cat food supply is very limited).
✔️ Emergency food needs? Call us to schedule a pickup outside pantry hours—we’ll do our best to help! (No unannounced walk-ins, please!)

🐾 It's our Ruck with Rescues featured Ruck Pup of the week, new arrival, Behr!

Behr is a sweet senior at around 8 years old and is just one of the calmest, most welcoming dogs you could ever hope to meet.
Behr transferred to us from a partner rescue that took him from a not good home. When they found him, he was covered in paint and fleas and had clearly been neglected, but you’d never know it from the gentle, loving way he greets everyone.

During the walk, his favorite person to meet was the littlest Rucker, Jasper, so we're pretty sure, he's got a soft spot in his big heart for children.

Speaking of his heart, Behr is heartworm positive, and his treatment is included as part of his adoption. If you’d like to donate toward giving this senior boy the healthy life he deserves, we would be grateful!

🐾We are excited to be a part of the "Clear the Shelters" event for the very FIRST time!🐾

This annual event is a partnership between NBCUniversal WOOD TV8, Greater Good Charities, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, and participating shelters nationwide. Not only is it a push for adoptions, but also a fundraising opportunity with drives and matching donations all throughout the month!

🎉🎉 We are having our reduced-fee adoption event this week on Thursday August 14th-Saturday August 16th! Adoption specials will range from completely waived to reduced adoption fees for qualifying Furiends looking for homes!

🐶🐶🐶We just reopened our 20 dog kennels and are already over full with 29 dogs and puppies on site in just TWO DAYS!! Only SIX were returning Canine Camper Fosters, so that is a lot of new Furiends!

🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱 We also took in 5 kittens in a pillowcase, 3 older cats, 2 senior orange boys in the same time frame to make a total of 75 cats and kittens in our care!!

😺This Caturday, we are asking for help with the very smallest Furiend in our care!

Kia was found under a car, all alone. She is only 3/4 of one pound, dehydrated, malnourished and fighting an infection. We think she might be blind.
That is a lot for a four week old Furball to deal with.

Luckily, foster Ella has stepped up to give her a safe place to heal.
She will be going to the veterinarian next week to see what is going on with her eyes.

If you would like to help Kia, and other homeless pets like her, please consider a donation to our Angel Fund for medical care costs, our shelter support fund or some soft kitten food from our wishlist list!

Without our community's support, we can't help the Kia's in our care get healthy and find a home to grow up in.
