After nearly a year of recovery, we’re so happy to share a very special Tilly update! 🐢💚

Tilly is a Sulcata tortoise, also known as an African Spurred Tortoise, who traveled all the way from Idaho to see our Exotics team last July. He was suffering from a massive cloacolith that was preventing him from passing stool or urate and required an almost 6-hour surgery to remove the blockage.

His recovery was a long one, with hospitalization, enemas, assisted feedings, exercise to encourage gut motility, plenty of soaks in his very own kitty pool, and even a rolling stool to help us transport this big guy around the hospital. 😂

And now for the best news: Tilly is finally back to eating AND pooping normally! 🎉 After everything he and his family have been through, we couldn’t be happier to see him doing so well.

A little Valkyrie update… or should we say Sula? 🐍💚

A few months ago, our Exotics team had the incredible opportunity to perform surgery on this 19-foot reticulated python, then known as Valkyrie. Now, she’s settling into her new home at the aquarium with a new name, Sula!

Of course, our Exotics team had to stop by for a visit and see how their former patient is doing. We love getting to see our patients thriving after they leave our care!

Annual exams give us a chance to check their overall health, stay up to date on vaccines, take a look at those teeth and catch any changes early.

Meet Percy! 🐱🤍 One of our incredible receptionists, Taylor, recently welcomed this adorable Scottish Fold kitten into her family, and we’re already obsessed.

Scottish Folds are known for their signature folded ears, which are caused by a natural genetic mutation that affects cartilage and gives them their unmistakably sweet, round-faced look.

Although, we couldn’t help but notice Percy looks a little familiar… 👀 Between those big eyes, tiny ears, and adorable little face, we’re having a hard time telling Percy and Katie from Horton Hears a Who apart. 😂

Round up of just a few of the incredible exotic patients we’ve had the privilege of caring for this summer. 💚

From reptiles and birds to amphibians and everything in between, we’re so lucky to have such an amazing Exotics Department and a team that’s passionate about caring for these unique pets. Every patient is different, and it’s incredibly rewarding to help them feel their best.

There are so many more we wish we could share, but here’s a small glimpse at some of the amazing faces we’ve met over the past few months.
