Meet Marvin, he's been a long term patient of Dr. Disney, being treated for Uveodermatologic syndrome. This is an autoimmune disease that can cause permanent blindness.
In Marvin's case, you'd never even know he's blind! He still runs around and chases his best friend Scooter (like in this video) and lives life like a happy normal dog.
Blindness can be challenging but many still have a great quality of life and adjust well. Learning to cope with a blind dog takes patience and dedication, but Marvin's owner has done amazing with the challenge!

If you have any concerns about your dogs vision, you can always reach out to us here at Eye Care for Animals, we're always happy to help!

Did you know that kitten eyes are kind of unique?

Ernesto and Bertram would love to share some kitten eye facts!

- Kittens are born with their eyes closed, they don’t open them until around 5-7 days after they’re born.
- Kitten eyes continue to change and grow until they’re about 4 months old!
- Kittens are born with blue eyes, inside and out! Their tapetum (the reflective part in the back of the eye) is blue until about 8 weeks of age, but on the “outside” their iris remains blue up to 4 months old. Once the melanin production begins they will develop their real eye color.

What color do you think these guys will have one day?

Sequestrum before and after!

A sequestrum (the black in the first picture) is necrotic tissue on the cornea caused by chronic irritation. This is common in brachycephalic breeds (smushed face breeds) and can require surgical removal.

Our perfect patient Beans came to us with a sequestrum in his one remaining eye so Dr. Amy Knollinger performed surgery to remove the dead tissue. This involved carefully cutting the tissue out and replacing it with an amnion graft. Beans healed up so well you can hardly tell anything happened!
