EMERGENCY - ANIMAL TRANSPORT VAN CRASH!!!
Yesterday began like any other for Wright-Way Rescue’s transport team. Their mission: to assist our partners in Oxford, Mississippi, and Blytheville, Arkansas by bringing four vulnerable litters of puppies to safety.
The first stop was Cleveland, Mississippi. One by one, three litters of puppies received their veterinary inspection and boarded our Wright-Way Rescue transport van – a high-top Dodge Promaster that has carried thousands of animals to safety over the years.
• The first litter, just three puppies, had been abandoned at a construction site and found scavenging in the woods, desperate for food.
• The second litter had been labeled “unwanted” by a farmer who could not sell them.
• The third litter, Rottweiler mixes, had been surrendered at just 3 weeks old. The facility bottle-fed them around the clock until they were finally old enough for rescue.
With the puppies safely secured in their crates, our driver continued toward his final stop in Blytheville, Arkansas. Spirits were high, and it seemed like another successful day of lifesaving transport.
But then—the unthinkable happened.
A semi-truck crashed in front of our van, forcing our driver into a detour through Memphis. In heavy traffic and confusing roadways, disaster struck: our transport vehicle was involved in a collision.
Miraculously, both drivers—though shaken—were not seriously injured. And most importantly, every single puppy was unharmed, thanks to the care taken to secure them safely.
The van, however, was not so fortunate. Both airbags deployed, the front end was crushed, and fluids leaked everywhere. One of our most essential lifelines for homeless animals was suddenly gone.
Back at headquarters, another Wright-Way driver was immediately dispatched with a second van to rescue both the shaken driver and the puppies. It was a three-hour drive.
In the meantime, our original driver—still rattled from the crash—stayed by the van’s side, caring for the puppies, keeping them calm, and making sure they were comfortable until help arrived.
And here’s where the story becomes truly extraordinary.
When the relief driver finally reached Memphis, the team had a decision to make: return home, or press forward. You might expect them to call it a night after such a long, frightening ordeal. But instead—our transport team informed management that they would be continuing the rescue run despite everything that had just happened.
They refused to let anything stand in the way of saving lives.
Late that night, long after they should have been home, they pulled into Blytheville, Arkansas. There, a rescuer had been waiting with two tiny Jack Russell Terrier mix puppies—surrendered by an owner who could no longer care for them. The rescuer, who feared the transport might never arrive, was overwhelmed with gratitude that Wright-Way Rescue didn’t give up.
This is who Wright-Way Rescue is. We don’t stop. We don’t give up. Because we know: if we don’t show up, help won’t arrive.
Now, we need your help.
While we do carry insurance, the payout will not come close to covering the cost of replacing this essential vehicle. The van that was lost already had high mileage, and what insurance provides will fall far short of what is needed for another reliable transport van.
But rescue doesn’t stop. Animals are still waiting—today, tomorrow, and every day. And without another Promaster van, their journey to safety is at risk.
We urgently need to replace the van lost in this accident so we can continue saving lives without delay.
Will you help us purchase a new transport van?
Your gift today is not just for a vehicle—it’s for the countless puppies, dogs, kittens, and cats who are waiting right now for their chance at rescue.
Thank you for always showing up for Wright-Way Rescue—and for the animals who depend on us all.
Together, we will keep moving forward and keep saving lives!
