The Day Secretariat Cried🇺🇲
It was a quiet morning at Belmont Park, just a few weeks after Secretariat’s final race. The barn felt different. The cheers were gone. The cameras were gone. But Secretariat remained, regal as ever, still adjusting to the silence of retirement.

One of the stablehands, old Joe, swore by what he saw that day. Secretariat, normally calm and composed, stood at the edge of his stall, ears twitching, staring at the track. A gentle wind blew, and with it came the distant echo of cheering—at least, that’s how Joe described it.

“I looked into his eyes,” Joe would later tell a reporter, “and I swear to God, there were tears. Not fear. Not pain. Just... longing.”

It was as if Secretariat missed the race, missed the thunder of his own hooves shaking the earth, missed being Secretariat, the champion.

And then came Eddie Sweat, his groom and closest friend. Eddie didn’t say a word. He just rubbed Big Red’s neck, and the horse leaned into him. They stood there like that for a long time,two souls bound not by glory, but by trust.

That day, Secretariat didn’t need a finish line. He found peace in the presence of the man who always believed in him.

93 Years Old & Still Riding!
Meet an incredible horsewoman who proves age is just a number. At 93 years young, she's still in the saddle — riding with wisdom, grace, and decades of experience.

While she may not have the stamina of her younger days, her passion and knowledge more than make up for it. She’s a shining example for older riders everywhere.

Her advice? "If you like it and you can, just go and do it!"
We can only hope to be riding at 93 — but something tells us she’s one of a kind. 💪❤️

When Eddie sweat died 1998, Penny Chenery told The Blood Horse, “Eddie was very important to Secretariat, and to me... He respected the horse, but he was never afraid of him. I used to say that he was an important part of the team, but he really was the team.“
On other occasions, Chenery dubbed Eddie “one of the finest men around a horse I ever saw“ and a steadying presence for Secretariat when fans, reporters, and photographers besieged the horse. She called Eddie “Secretariat’s stability.“
Penny Chenery and Eddie Sweat did not have actual conversations. Most grooms and owners don’t. “Eddie was class-conscious,“ Chenery said. “He was a ‘Yes ma’am’ and ‘No ma’am’ kind a man with me.“
She well recalls the friendship between Eddie and Charlie Davis. She told me, “Charlie was the clown; Eddie was the professional. I remember after Secretariat won the Derby, someone sent a case of champagne to the barn at Churchhill Downs. We”- she was with Lucien Laurin and Ron Turcotte- “were stuck with the press for an hour. We get back to the barn and here’s Charlie three sheets to the wind. The horses were walking Charlie. He’s singing, ‘How sweet it is to be loved by you...’”
Eddie had gone along, and he posed with a glass of champagne for a picture with Secretariat. But he took only a sip and tossed the rest. There was work to do

Sad update on Claire , one of yesterday’s rescues;

After breakfast this morning she laid back down and just let go…..

Finally feeling safe the adrenaline left her body and she made her way up to heaven.
She was to good for this world 😪

When Secretariat died in 1989, writer Bill Nack, who had followed his entire career, was deeply moved. He read aloud the elegy he had written, his voice trembling with emotion. Nack recalled the horse’s grace, power, and heart, calling him a “miracle of nature.” He said Secretariat had a "stride that seemed to devour the earth" and described watching him race as "witnessing poetry in motion." Nack considered Secretariat not just a great athlete, but a living legend. At the burial, he placed roses—like those from the Kentucky Derby—on Secretariat’s grave. Through tears, he called him “the greatest of them all.” His words honored the legacy of a horse who had inspired millions. It was not just the end of a life, but the end of an era.
