We have no words for our sadness and also for our hope for their future. Chief Eric and Kevin have helped us with countless domestic abuse cases. It hurts us deeply to lose them.
But change is progress and we get it.

City of Montpelier Police Chief and Deputy Chief Announce Departure
MONTPELIER, VTβIt was announced on Tuesday that the City of Montpelier Police Chief Eric Nordenson and Deputy Chief Kevin Moulton will be leaving their roles with the City and have accepted equivalent positions with the Town of Northfield Police Department.
Chief Nordenson has served with the Montpelier Police Department since April 1997. He was promoted to Deputy Chief in 2020 and Chief in December 2022.
Deputy Chief Moulton has served with the Montpelier Police Department since 2007 and was promoted from Sergeant to Deputy Chief in 2023. Deputy Chief Moulton has also served as acting interim chief in Northfield since January 14th of this year.
"I thank the Chief and Deputy Chief for the years they dedicated to the City of Montpelier. They have been steadfast and experienced members of our leadership team, said City Manager, Kelly McNicholas Kury. "I always support staff moving on when they've decided their time with the organization has come to a close and I wish them well in the next chapters of their careers."
"My attention will now turn toward a smooth transition and giving the recruitment of their replacements the highest consideration that it deserves." continued Manager McNicholas Kury. The City Manager and the Chief are working to mutually identify a date for separation of service. Communications to City Council, staff and the public about the transition will be forthcoming.
