Bif made a funny last night. He tends to be very laid back when collecting, he likes to schmooze the ladies and takes his sweet time to get the job done; he's not really a wham-bam kind of guy. Well, I guess he wanted a little mood music because while he was puttering around getting himself psyched up, he reached over and cranked up the volume on the radio! And who said horses don't have personalities?! 😆🎼

Here's a photo of one of Bif's babies born this morning that no one knew existed for the past 10 months.

Last year we shipped to our client in Ohio, mare checked open. Shipped again, mare checked open again. The owner decided not to try again.

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when the mare's farrier was out and asked the owner when she was due? While underneath her, he apparently discovered her bagging up. I got a panicked message from the owner who now needs to "baby proof" their place and prepare for a baby which they didn't know was coming. She was a maiden mare, with a maiden owner, so we had to quickly provide them with "Foaling 101" preparation instructions.

Happy to see it all turned out well, but what a bummer to have not had the excitement of anticipating a baby for the past year!! And how that mare hid that baby and all her legs is beyond me! I mean, she looks like she could be kind of thick, but jeeze, that's a lot of baby to keep hidden!

Even though we did not do much of any advertising this year and did not bring Bif to any Expos, we still have several mares in our barn for breeding, so thank you to our loyal clients and those new ones who found us. With Les' shoulder surgery and my upcoming knee surgery, we thought it best to back off on the breeding this year. We do, however, have a couple weeks to sneak in a couple more before my surgery if anyone has a mare who needs a date. We've got just enough time to catch a cycle before I'll be laid up.

If there's one piece of advice I could offer to those who foal out mares; it's to invest in a good camera system. Such good peace of mind they provide! We can tune in from anywhere at any time and see what the horses are doing. And best of all, no getting out of bed in the middle of the night, or wondering what's going on while you're sleeping. All we have to do is roll over & glance at the screen. If every time you said to your husband, your wife, or your dog, "I'll give you ten bucks if you go out & check her", you'll have it paid for in no time!

We are currently waiting on a mare who is at 349 days today. It's a Bif baby, so we're anxious to see what is in there.
