As many people know, we are currently in a massive cat overpopulation crisis. Ensuring your cat is spayed or neutered is not only beneficial for the reasons listed above, but it is truly the only way to prevent the overpopulation from worsening. In recent years, the amount of cats entering the nation’s shelters has increased and as a result euthanasia rates have risen.

New Jersey alone is estimated to have 1.3 to 2 million stray or feral cats, which is in addition to owned cats. Despite many people believing that there are adoptive homes for all of the many cats in shelters, and unborn kittens, NJ is ranked third lowest in the nation for cat ownership. So please whether owned cat, or if you are involved in TNR, don’t hesitate to contact me to schedule an appointment.

UNEXPECTED EMERGENCY VET EXPENSE

This week our rescue incurred and unexpected emergency medical expense after being alerted to a critically ill cat in need of emergency care.

Shadow, a 5 years old female was diagnosed with pyometra- a severe and life threatening infection that required urgent surgery. Thankfully, the treatment was performed in time and she is now recovering well.

Cases like Shadow's are reminders that emergencies can happen without warning, and please a significant strain on our rescue.

Today we had our "new girl," Brooklyn, (light brindle) walk with Maui (tan), who prefers to walk when he has another dog to follow. They got along together beautifully. Brooklyn is an energetic and easy-going gal who took Maui's unabashed advances in stride with no reaction. (Maui considers himself a bit of a ladies' man).

Brooklyn is only 2 years old, walks nicely on leash, accepts other dogs in her space with no issues, and desperately would like to land in a foster or adoptive home asap. She is super friendly, spayed and ready for a home. She fostered with Courtney Motylinski of Smart Paws Dog Training for a month until Courtney's schedule changed, so Brooklyn is spending time at the kennel we use when we don't have foster homes available.

Maui is a senior at about 11 years who is the friendliest guy in town and adores attention from anyone who will give it! He has some skin issues that are VERY manageable and would love to land in a loving home -- he is very affectionate. He does snort loudly at times which you hear on the video, but it's all good!
