Wildlife Reminder from Montclair Township Animal Control
As we move into spring, we begin to see an increase in wildlife activity—especially baby animals such as rabbits, birds, and squirrels.
We want to remind residents that young wildlife should not be removed from their nests or natural environment. In many cases, what may appear to be an “abandoned” animal is actually being actively cared for by its mother, who may only return at certain times of the day.
Under New Jersey Fish & Wildlife regulations, it is not permitted to remove or possess wildlife without proper authorization.
Intervening, even with good intentions, can:
• Separate babies from their mother
• Reduce their chances of survival
• Create situations where specialized care is required
If you encounter a nest or young wildlife:
• Please leave the area undisturbed
• Keep pets away
• Observe from a distance
If you believe an animal is truly injured or in immediate danger, please contact Montclair Township Animal Control at 862-621-9113 for guidance.
Thank you for helping protect our local wildlife.
