A Month Made Possible by YOU!

October has been our busiest month of the year so far, with 31 visits in 31 days! But what makes a month like this special isn't the number of visits. It's the people we've had the opportunity to meet, the smiles we've been part of, and the moments our teams have shared throughout our community.

To our members: thank you for the time, dedication, and care you give to making these visits possible. Every visit represents a team choosing to share their time and their dog's training to make someone's day a little brighter. We're so grateful to have you as part of the Legacy family!

To our community partners: thank you for opening your doors to our teams and giving our dogs the opportunity to do what they do best. We're grateful for every school, workplace, library, and organization that makes room for Legacy in its community.

After a full October, our dogs will enjoy some downtime, plenty of play, and all the fun that comes with Halloween! Then it's on to November, with more visits, new faces, and opportunities to make connections!

Here's to another month of making a difference, one visit at a time!

A little Halloween fun, a lot of heart!

Last week, several of the Legacy Therapy Dogs joined Geneseo schools for their Trunk or Treat, bringing along plenty of wagging tails and opportunities for connection!

Petting a dog might seem like a small moment, but it can make a meaningful difference. Spending time with a friendly dog can help ease stress, encourage relaxation, lift someone's mood, and offer a welcome break from the busyness of everyday life.

That's why we love opportunities like this! Whether it's a few minutes of gentle pets, a happy tail wag, or simply taking a moment to be around a dog, these little interactions are part of what makes therapy dogs so special.

Thank you to Geneseo schools for welcoming us and giving our Legacy Therapy Dogs the opportunity to share a little comfort and happiness with the community!

Moline, thank you for a spooktacular evening!

We had such a wonderful time at Moline's Trunk or Treat last Friday! From meeting new faces to sharing plenty of pets, smiles, and Halloween fun, we loved being part of the festivities and getting to spend time with our community.

A big thank-you to everyone who stopped by to say hello to the Legacy Therapy Dogs! We hope you enjoyed meeting our pups as much as they enjoyed meeting you.

But wait… Halloween fun isn't over just yet!

Still hoping to meet the Legacy therapy dogs this Halloween? Here's your chance!

The Legacy Therapy Dogs will be at Geneseo Elementary Schools' Trunk or Treat THIS afternoon, Sunday October 25th! Stop by, enjoy the festivities, and spend a little time with some of your favorite therapy dogs.

Trick-or-treating is even sweeter with therapy dogs!

Join Legacy Therapy Dogs TONIGHT at the Moline Parks & Recreation Trunk or Treat for an evening of Halloween fun! Our therapy dogs will be ready to share some tail wags, friendly faces, and plenty of love. We’re looking forward to sharing a little extra joy with our community this Halloween season!

Sometimes, the best reading buddy has four paws!

Reading aloud can feel intimidating for children, especially when they’re still building confidence in their skills. The Legacy Reading Dogs offer a patient, nonjudgmental audience where young readers can practice at their own pace, grow more comfortable reading aloud, and discover the joy of sharing a story.

Tonight, we’re bringing that special kind of encouragement to the LeClaire Library! Whether a child is a confident reader or just finding their voice, a therapy dog can make reading feel a little less stressful and a lot more fun.

There’s something special about the way a dog can make the world feel a little better.

Sometimes, it’s as simple as sitting in the grass, sharing a little affection, and taking a moment to slow down. No big gestures or special words needed. Just a gentle presence and a little time together.

The Legacy Therapy Dogs (and their amazing handlers) create these moments every day, offering comfort, bringing joy, and reminding us that even the simplest interactions can make a meaningful difference.

Because sometimes, a few minutes with a dog can mean more than words can say.

Does your dog suddenly forget their name when there's something exciting to sniff, see, or investigate? You're not alone!

Learning to listen and respond around distractions takes practice, and training gives you and your dog the opportunity to build those skills together.

Our next Basic Training class starts October 27th!

There are so many ways therapy dogs can make a difference, and we're proud to be part of that journey.

Facility dogs like Elle become a familiar and comforting presence in the places they work, building connections with the people they see every day.

These placements come with a special responsibility. Facility dogs become part of the environments they work in, and the people around them rely on them to be well-prepared for that role. That's why, at Legacy, we hold our therapy dogs to high standards and our facility dogs to even higher ones.

And our support doesn't stop once a facility dog begins working! We're happy to support our members by arranging additional visits for introductions, special occasions, or times when a little extra comfort and connection would be meaningful.

We're so proud of Elle and the difference she makes everyday, and grateful to support our members as they find meaningful ways to serve our communities.

Mental health support can look different for everyone.

Sometimes, it looks like having someone to talk to. Sometimes, it looks like taking a moment to breathe. And sometimes, it looks like sitting beside a therapy dog and feeling a little less alone.

We were proud to join the NAMI Walk in support of mental health awareness and the reminder that no one should have to navigate their mental health journey alone.

Therapy dogs can offer comfort, create opportunities for connection, and bring moments of calm during difficult days. Their presence can make it a little easier to pause, open up, and feel supported without the pressure to find the right words.

At Legacy Therapy Dogs, we believe small moments of comfort can make a meaningful difference, and everyone deserves to feel supported.

You never know how much a little kindness, a listening ear, or a few minutes with a therapy dog might mean to someone.

Let’s keep showing up for mental health, for one another, and for the moments that remind us we’re not alone.
