🐾 Do pets actually get wiser with age?

Maybe not in the way we think of human wisdom—but ask anyone who's shared their life with a senior pet, and they'll probably tell you they do. Over the years, our pets seem to trade youthful mischief for something different. They learn our routines, recognize our moods, know exactly when dinner is five minutes late, and somehow always manage to find the sunniest spot in the house. They may not be solving philosophy problems, but they become remarkably good at understanding the people and world around them.

Science tells us that dogs can continue learning throughout their lives, even as they process new information a little more slowly with age. They also build years of experience, recognizing familiar people, routines, and environments.

Maybe that's why so many senior pets seem calmer, more patient, and perfectly content simply being close to the people they love.

Perhaps wisdom isn't about knowing everything.

Perhaps it's about knowing what matters.

❤️ A warm bed.
❤️ A familiar face.
❤️ A favorite toy.
❤️ One more walk.
❤️ One more treat.
❤️ One more day with the people they love.

🌈🐾 August 28 is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day.

Some pets stay with us for a season.

Others stay with us for a lifetime...
..and all of them leave paw prints on our hearts forever.

Today, we honor the companions who greeted us at the door, curled up beside us after a long day, celebrated our happiest moments, and quietly comforted us through our hardest ones.

The love we share with our pets never truly ends. It lives on in the routines we still remember, the photos we can't help but smile at, the toys we can't quite put away, and the countless memories that make us laugh through the tears.

As a veterinary team, we know saying goodbye is one of the hardest parts of loving a pet. It's also one of the greatest privileges to have known a love so deep that their absence is still felt.

Today, we invite you to take a moment to remember the pets who helped shape your life. Whether they crossed the Rainbow Bridge recently or many years ago, they'll always be part of your story.

While the kids are getting ready for class, it's the perfect time to make sure your pet is ready for the season ahead, too!

Think of this as your pet's Back-to-School Report Card:

✅ Vaccines up to date
✅ Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention current
✅ Annual wellness exam completed
✅ Dental health checked
✅ Microchip information up to date
✅ Excellent attendance at veterinary visits

Just like routine checkups help children stay healthy and ready to learn, preventive veterinary care helps your pet stay happy, healthy, and ready for every adventure the season brings.

🐾 Has your pet become your full-time shadow this summer? They may notice when your routine changes.

As summer comes to an end and families head back to school, work, and their regular schedules, many pets suddenly find themselves spending more time home alone.

For some dogs—and even some cats—that transition can be stressful.

Signs of separation anxiety or stress may include:
🐶 Excessive barking or vocalizing
🚪 Scratching at doors or windows
🛋️ Destructive chewing or digging
💧 Accidents in the house
🐾 Pacing, panting, or following you everywhere when you're home

The good news? A little preparation now can make the transition much easier.

Here are a few ways to help:
✔️ Start adjusting your pet's routine gradually before schedules change.
✔️ Increase daily exercise to help burn off excess energy.
✔️ Provide puzzle toys, treat dispensers, or other enrichment activities while you're away.
✔️ Practice short departures to help your pet build confidence being alone.

If your pet experiences severe anxiety or their behavior suddenly changes, don't assume they'll "grow out of it." Separation anxiety is a real behavioral condition, and we're here to help. Together, we can discuss strategies and treatment options to help your pet feel more relaxed and confident.

You packed the tent.
Your pet packed the chaos.

⛺ "Helping" load the car? ✔️
🐾 Tracking dirt (or somehow finding mud) within the first five minutes? ✔️
👃 Inspecting absolutely everything? ✔️
🐿️ Determined to investigate every critter, bird, or suspicious leaf? ✔️
🍖 Trying to "help" with every meal? ✔️
😴 Completely exhausted after keeping you on your toes all day? Absolutely.

Camping with pets creates some of the best memories—but a little preparation helps keep every adventure safe.

Before you hit the trail, remember to:
💧 Pack plenty of fresh water.
🦟 Keep your pet up to date on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
🏷️ Make sure their ID tags and microchip information are current.
🩹 Bring a pet first aid kit for unexpected scrapes or paw injuries.
