Halloween Safety Tips! 🐾👻

While we love the costumes and candy, Halloween can actually be a pretty spooky and stressful night for our pets. Here is a quick checklist to keep them safe and cozy:

🍫 Stash the Sweets: Chocolate, raisins, and sugar-free candies (containing Xylitol) are highly toxic to dogs and cats. Keep all trick-or-treat candy safely out of paw's reach.
🚪 Secure the Front Door: With the door constantly opening and closing for trick-or-treaters, it’s easy for a stressed pet to dart outside. Keep them in a quiet, secure room away from the entry.
🏷️ Check ID Tags: Make sure your pet’s microchip information and collar tags are completely up-to-date, just in case they manage to slip out.
🕯️ Watch the Glow: Keep lit jack-o'-lanterns and glowing sticks away from curious noses and wagging tails to prevent burns or accidental ingestion.
🧛‍♂️ Rethink the Costume: If your pet wears a costume, ensure it doesn’t restrict their breathing, vision, or movement. If they seem stressed or refuse to move, stick to a festive bandana instead!

🎃🐾 FALL PET SAFETY: KEEP YOUR FURRY FRIENDS SAFE THIS HALLOWEEN! 🐾🍂

Fall is full of pumpkins, cozy decorations, costumes, and Halloween treats! 👻🕸️ While we enjoy the spooky season, it's important to remember that some of our favorite fall traditions can pose dangers to our pets. ❤️🐶🐱

🍬 🎃 HALLOWEEN CANDY & TREATS
🚫 Chocolate is toxic to both dogs and cats, especially dark chocolate and baking chocolate.
🚫 Xylitol (birch sugar), found in some sugar-free candies and gum, is extremely dangerous to dogs.
🚫 Raisins and grapes can cause serious kidney damage in dogs.
🚫 Candy wrappers can cause choking or intestinal blockages if swallowed.
🚫 Keep candy bowls, treat bags, and trick-or-treat buckets well out of paw's reach!

🕯️ 🍂 FALL DECORATIONS & CANDLES
🎃 Keep pumpkins and gourds out of reach if your pet likes to chew. Moldy pumpkins can make pets sick, and large pieces may cause digestive problems.
🕯️ Use flameless candles when possible. Wagging tails and curious paws can knock over real candles.
🌿 Be careful with potpourri, essential oils, and decorative plants, as some can be toxic to pets.
🧵 Keep fake spiderwebs, ribbons, tinsel, and small decorations away from curious mouths. Swallowing them can cause dangerous intestinal blockages.
🔌 Secure electrical cords and decorative lights to prevent chewing and electric shock.

🐕 👻 COSTUMES, DOORBELLS & TRICK-OR-TREATERS
🐾 Choose costumes that fit comfortably and don't restrict breathing, vision, movement, or hearing.
🐾 Never leave pets unattended in costumes, especially if they have loose pieces they could chew or swallow.
🐾 Keep pets in a quiet, secure room during trick-or-treating to reduce stress and prevent escapes through open doors.
🐾 Make sure your pet wears identification and has updated microchip information.
🐾 If your pet becomes anxious around strangers, costumes, or loud noises, give them a calm, safe space away from the festivities.

🚨 **RABIES AWARENESS SAVES LIVES!** 🚨

Every year on **September 28th**, World Rabies Day helps raise awareness about rabies prevention and the importance of protecting both people and animals.

🐶🐱 **One of the most important ways to protect our pets is keeping their rabies vaccinations up to date.**

Rabies is a serious viral disease that can affect mammals, including dogs, cats, wildlife, and people. Once clinical signs develop, rabies is almost always fatal — making **prevention incredibly important.**

💚 **How can we help prevent rabies?**

🐾 Keep dogs and cats current on their rabies vaccinations
🐾 Avoid approaching or handling unfamiliar or wild animals
🐾 Keep pets from interacting with wildlife whenever possible
🐾 Teach children to never approach or touch wild or unfamiliar animals
🐾 Contact your veterinarian if your pet has been exposed to a potentially rabid animal
🐾 If a person is bitten or scratched by an animal, seek medical advice promptly
